TITLE: Director of Tax Services, Wealth Management
DEPARTMENT: 980 - Wealth Mgmt/Trust
JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Tax Services, Wealth Management is responsible for leading all tax-related activities within the Wealth Management and Trust Department. This position oversees fiduciary, individual, estate, and gift tax services, ensuring accurate tax reporting, tax return preparation, and proactive tax planning strategies for clients. The Director provides leadership to the tax team, partners closely with Trust Administration, Investment and Wealth Management, and develops tax solutions that enhance client relationships while managing regulatory and operational risk.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead the Tax Service business unit and establish strategic goals aligned with Wealth Management objectives.
- Develop and expand tax planning capabilities for high-net-worth individuals, trust, estates, and closely held businesses. Identify opportunities to deepen client relationships through expanded planning services
- Serve as subject matter expert for tax matters affecting trust and wealth management relationships.
- Oversee the preparation and filing of fiduciary, individual, estate, gift, and related tax returns.
- Ensure the timely and accurate production of all tax reporting forms, including Forms 1099, K-1s, and other required tax documents.
- Establish quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor tax calendars, filing deadlines, and workflow management.
- Collaborate with Trust Officers, Wealth Advisors, Portfolio Managers, and attorneys to deliver integrated tax-efficient strategies.
- Provide guidance on income tax, estate tax, charitable giving, trust structures, and wealth transfer planning.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Coordinate with internal compliance, risk management, and audit teams.
- Manage relationships with external tax providers and regulators as needed.
- Ensure proper documentation, controls, and record retention procedures.
- Support referral generation from commercial banking, private banking, and retail banking partners.
- Hire, develop, motivate, and train staff, including planning and delegating work assignments and projects.
- Evaluate performance, administer touch points and deliver performance evaluations.
- Foster a positive work environment that encourages professional growth and development.
- Establish clear expectations and hold team members accountable to performance and behaviors aligned with our culture.
- Understand and administer compensation based on pay for performance philosophy, including merit increases and variable pay.
- Participate in community engagement events. This can include professional, civic and community groups.
- Comply with all company or regulatory policies, procedures and requirements applicable to this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting taxation, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive tax experience, including fiduciary and trust taxation.
- Management experience leading tax professionals.
- CPA Required.
- Masters in taxation, JD, CFP, or CTFA preferred.
- Strong knowledge of fiduciary income tax, estate and gift tax, trust administration, and wealth planning.
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills.

SALARY & BENEFITS:
The minimum salary range for this position is $125,000 annually. The actual starting salary will be based on qualifications and business needs and may vary, as permitted by applicable state law.
