Description
Overview
This is PowerPlan's first Business Development Representative role — a high-visibility seat built to solve one of the company's most pressing go-to-market challenges: building predictable top-of-funnel pipeline in a new-market sales motion. You'll be the engine behind outbound prospecting into asset-intensive enterprises, opening conversations with senior finance and IT leaders, qualifying opportunities, and booking discovery calls that free our Strategic Account Executives to focus on closing.
This role comes with a defined career progression path mapped out at approximately the 18-month mark, a full sales tech stack on day one, and finalized ICP and buyer personas before you start. It's the right seat for someone early in their sales career who wants to learn enterprise software sales from the inside, build a foundation in a complex B2B market, and grow into a closing role.
Responsibilities
Success will be measured by how fast you ramp to full outbound activity, how consistently you hit your outreach targets, and by the quality — not just the volume — of the meetings you hand off to Strategic AEs.
- Complete structured onboarding and earn messaging certification within your first 60 days, ramping to full outbound activity targets.
- Execute a high-volume, multi-channel outbound motion — cold calling, cold email, and LinkedIn-led social selling — targeting buying committees within PowerPlan's ideal customer profile.
- Hit weekly and monthly activity targets for outbound calls, emails, and meaningful conversations, and log every interaction in Salesforce same-day.
- Qualify every inbound and outbound lead against BANT criteria and PowerPlan's ICP before booking a discovery call.
- Hand off qualified meetings to Strategic AEs with clean, complete context — account background, contact details, the pain or trigger behind the conversation, and relevant CRM history.
- Report back to Marketing Ops on lead source strength, messaging effectiveness, and objection patterns, and partner with Strategic AEs on coordinated outbound into named accounts.
- Support pre- and post-conference meeting generation, webinar attendance campaigns, and post-webinar follow-up sequences.
Qualifications
- 1-2 years in a sales, business development, or customer-facing role (strong candidates with 0-1 years will be considered).
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication — able to hold a credible business conversation with a senior finance or IT leader.
- Builds rapport quickly and articulates a value proposition clearly and concisely, without over-relying on scripts.
- Working proficiency with Salesforce, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, sales intelligence tools (Ample Market or equivalent), and spreadsheets.
- Resilient and goal-oriented — high tolerance for rejection and the ability to stay consistent in high-volume outreach over time.
- Curious and coachable — acts on feedback fast and applies lessons from every conversation to the next one.
- Disciplined about CRM hygiene and activity logging — you treat Salesforce as a tool that makes you better, not a reporting burden.
- Competitive drive with a team orientation — you want to win, and you want the AEs you support to win too.
Preferred
- Interest in enterprise software, finance, or the energy and utilities sector.
