Job Summary:

The CNC Machining Apprentice will participate in a structured training program designed to develop the skills needed to become a qualified CNC Machinist through hands-on experience, classroom instruction, and documented on-the-job training.

Prerequisites:

  • Successfully complete the company’s aptitude test before employment.
  • Complete a minimum of 320 working hours in the CNC Machining department before being considered for acceptance into the apprenticeship program.
  • Completion of the 320 hours does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
  • After the 320 hours, the production leadership team will evaluate the employee’s attendance, performance, dependability, attitude, effort, and willingness to learn.
  • Consistent attendance and a strong commitment to learning are critical during the evaluation period.
  • The production leadership team will make the final decision regarding acceptance into the apprenticeship program.

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

  • Learn to safely operate CNC mills, lathes, and other machining equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and job travelers.
  • Learn machine setup procedures, tooling, and basic CNC programming.
  • Use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring equipment.
  • Inspect completed parts to ensure they meet quality requirements.
  • Identify and report tooling, machine, and product issues.
  • Follow all safety and quality procedures.
  • Document completed production and on-the-job training hours.
  • Attend and complete all required classroom instruction.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Apprenticeship Requirements:

  • Complete 6,000 hours of documented on-the-job training.
  • Successfully complete all required PMA classroom instruction.
  • Maintain fewer than three attendance points.
  • Maintain satisfactory performance and remain free of active disciplinary action.
  • Demonstrate continued progress throughout the program.

Schedule and Training Expectations:

The apprentice will train on day shift for approximately six months to one year. The length of the training period will depend on the apprentice’s progress and ability to perform the position safely and independently. Once approved to work independently, the apprentice will transition to night shift.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Interest in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical work.
  • Basic math skills, including fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Dependable attendance and commitment to completing the program.
  • Previous machining or manufacturing experience is preferred but not required.
