Job Description

Responsible for the consumer loan underwriting activities of the Business/Consumer Lending Services Department, including centralized underwriting/approval of consumer credits up to $ 3million (total relationship),
coordination of consumer credit packages to include business and personal financial information, coordination of loan closing documentation, and coordination of other consumer loan underwriters.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Develops, implements and administers all aspects of the Bank’s centralized consumer lending process; including approving loans up to $3,000,000 that exceed the loan authority of Relationship Managers.
  • Develops, implements, and administers all aspects of the consumer lending support activities of the department, including managing the bank’s consumer credit packages, pipeline reporting, application tracking, and coordination of loan documents with Centralized Loan Processing.
  • Develops and maintains advanced knowledge of consumer credit scoring and underwriting industry best practices and recommends policies and procedures that will increase efficiency, improve decisioning, and maximize profitability of consumer lending. 
  • Directly supervises activities of consumer underwriter associates as they relate to departmental functions
  • Ensures departmental activities run smoothly and efficiently by providing leadership, training and supervision.  
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that will ensure the effectiveness and productivity of the Business and Consumer Lending Services Department’s consumer lending activities.
  • Provides all reporting, information requests, and data for Compliance, Audit and Examiners as needed throughout the year for all consumer loan underwriting activities. 
  • Monitors all consumer loan activity and decisions to ensure compliance with all Fair Lending and other regulatory requirements.
  • Manages and trains residential mortgage underwriters for Private Banking Mortgages.
  • Ensures Private banking mortgage underwriting team underwrites the loans originated in Origin Bank’s Portfolio channel
  • Develop, implement, and maintain process and guideline changes with Private Banking programs.
  • Directly manages the work queues for the private banking Underwriting department, assigns loans to the underwriting staff and makes recommendations to senior management on staffing levels.
  • Monitors credit and underwriting requirements and makes recommendations on internal underwriting policies and procedures.
  • Underwrites complex and special program loan applications and makes recommendations to senior management on associated risk characteristics
  • Administers relevant credit policies

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises consumer underwriters in the Business/Consumer Lending Services (BCLS) Department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience                                                     

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, Accounting or Finance degree preferred; eight to ten years related credit experience in the banking/financial industry required.

Computer Skills                                                               

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of the Internet, Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint and QuickBooks.  Ability to use basic office machines.

Other Skills and Abilities                                                              

Must have strong working knowledge of the Origin Bank Lending Policy in order to provide proper decisioning of loan applications.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
