WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

  • What you'll be making - Starting rate for this role is $27.14 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service), with a wage differential, based on regulation ($30.01 per hour for Level 1 – Direct Service, Regulated):
    1. Successful candidates who are registered with one of the designated professional colleges (e.g. OCSWSSW, CNO, COTO, CRPO, CPSO, or CPO) will receive the wage differential for regulation
    2. Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8 ($34.41 per hour for non-regulated, and $37.26 per hour for regulated); for internal applicants, grid level placement will occur as per the Collective Agreement
    3. Premiums of $2.00 per hour will be applied for eligible Evening/Night (8:00pm – 7:00am) and Weekend Shifts. 
  • When you'll work – Casual shifts to include days, afternoons, evenings and weekends
  • Your pension plan –Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)

 

HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

 

 Primary Responsibilities 

  • Work with clients and help motivate/support them to work towards achievement of their goals 
  • Champion each client’s capacity for independent community living 
  • Assist clients to maintain suitable housing 
  • Facilitate and implement resident meetings 
  • Provide health teaching about mental illness and symptom management 
  • Crisis intervention and prevention 
  • Assist and coach clients in the learning and management/achievement of activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, daily chores, budgeting, socialization etc. 
  • Assist and teach meal planning, preparation and other food related activities (see additional information for the Eating Disorders Residence below) 
  • Advocate for and support clients in accessing community resources 
  • Documentation related to clients 
  • Medication monitoring and education; supporting clients with medication routines; and completion of Medication Reconciliation procedure, in applicable programs 
  • Ensure effective communication with Director, Managers, staff team, and external treatment teams concerning each client’s progress 
  • Identify, promote resolution, and management of all emergency situations concerning clients, staff, and property 
  • Make decisions both independently and collaboratively 

Additional Personal Care Responsibilities for Long-Stay Residential Treatment Facility (LS-RTF): 

  • Assist clients to maintain good personal hygiene which may include but is not limited to bathing, dressing and continence care 
  • Assist clients with elimination and toileting 
  • Assist clients with ambulation, positioning, and as necessary, provide safe lifts and transfers 
  • Perform routine housekeeping tasks for a safe and comfortable environment for clients 

 

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:
 

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements
Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 5 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.
 
We require the following qualifications:

  • University Degree or College Diploma in a mental health and addiction related field OR Personal Support Worker certificate with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a direct service, employment role in mental health or addictions (primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e. original degree/diploma or official transcript)
  • Ontario Driver’s Licence is preferred for most programs, required for shifts with the Community Homes for Opportunity Program (CHO) 
  • Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly 

We prefer the following qualifications:

  • First Aid & CPR
  • Training in crisis intervention and crisis resolution, including ASIST training program
  • Experience in the mental health field 
  • Experience working in a residential setting 
  • Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation 
  • Knowledge of psychiatric medications 
  • Knowledge of community resources 
  • Knowledge of computerized documentation methods 
  • General Health and Safety Knowledge
