Job Description Summary
The Site EHS Leader will provide strategic and operational leadership for all EHS activities at the Vadodara Blades manufacturing plant. This role is responsible for driving a "Safety First" culture, ensuring application of life saving rules at the point of impact; 100% regulatory compliance, and implementing global EHS standards to achieve world-class health, safety, and environmental performance.Job Description
sKey Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Safety & Culture Leadership
- Life Saving Rules (LSR): Champion the implementation and enforcement of Life Saving Rules. Conduct rigorous investigations into any deviations and drive a "zero-harm" mindset through behavioral safety programs.
- Risk Management: Perform comprehensive site-wide Risk Assessments and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) specifically tailored to composite blade manufacturing (e.g., resin handling, working at heights, heavy material lifting, and fiberglass exposure).
- Operational Integration: Partner with plant leadership to integrate EHS KPIs into daily production huddles and long-term operational excellence goals.
2. Environmental Stewardship & Waste Management
- Waste Lifecycle: Oversee the hazardous and non-hazardous waste management program, focusing on reduction at the source, proper segregation, and certified disposal/recycling.
- Sustainability: Drive site initiatives to reduce energy consumption, minimize chemical waste, and manage the plant’s carbon footprint in line with GE Vernova sustainability targets.
- Pollution Control: Ensure the effective operation of air emission control systems and water treatment facilities, maintaining strict adherence to environmental discharge standards.
3. Regulatory & Government Liaison
- Compliance: Maintain a robust legal register. Ensure the plant remains in full compliance with local, state, and central government regulations (GPCB, Factory Inspectorate, Fire Department, etc.).
- Government Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and government officials. Proactively manage the renewal of permits, licenses, and statutory filings.
- Representation: Represent the site in local industry safety forums and regulatory meetings to keep the plant updated on policy changes.
4. Audits, Training, and Continuous Improvement
- Audit Management: Lead internal and external EHS audits. Develop and manage the closure of Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) plans with clear timelines and accountability.
- Competency Training: Design and deliver site-specific training programs (e.g., chemical handling, LOTO, emergency response, ergonomics). Ensure all employees and contractors possess the necessary safety certifications.
- Emergency Preparedness: Lead the site Emergency Response Team (ERT). Conduct regular fire drills, evacuation simulations, and crisis management exercises.
5. Strategic Roadmap for EHS
- EHS Maturity Roadmap: Develop and execute a multi-year EHS Strategic Roadmap that aligns with global business objectives. This includes transitioning the site from a "Compliance-Based" culture to a "Proactive/Interdependent" safety culture where every employee owns their safety.
- Predictive Analytics & Leading Indicators: Move beyond reporting lagging indicators (e.g., TRIR, LTIR). Implement and track leading indicators—such as near-miss reporting rates, completion of proactive risk observations, and safety improvement suggestions—to identify and mitigate hazards before incidents occur.
- Safety Leadership Coaching: Implement a "Leadership Safety Walk" program where plant management and the EHS leader conduct targeted interactions on the shop floor. Coach frontline supervisors on how to lead safety conversations and reinforce positive safety behaviors.
- Digital Transformation in EHS: Drive the adoption of EHS digital platforms and dashboards. Leverage data analytics to visualize safety trends, automate permit-to-work systems, and streamline the tracking of regulatory renewals and audit CAPAs.
- EHS-Production Synergy: Partner with the Production and Engineering teams during the Management of Change (MOC) process. Act as a consultant for new equipment installation or process modifications to ensure "Safety by Design" principles are embedded from the conceptual stage.
- Vendor & Contractor Integration: Strategic oversight of contractor management, ensuring that external partners are not just vetted for compliance but are actively integrated into the plant's safety culture through shared training and performance incentives.
- Cross-Functional ESG Advocacy: Champion the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda. Coordinate with cross-functional leads to drive projects that improve resource efficiency (water/energy) and contribute to the company's broader sustainability goals.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Degree in Engineering or Environmental Science; recognized professional qualification in Industrial Safety (e.g., PDIS).
- Experience: Significant experience in manufacturing EHS management, preferably within the wind energy or heavy engineering sector.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of Indian Factories Act, EHS laws, and international standards (ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
- Soft Skills: Strong influencing skills, ability to manage high-pressure environments, and excellence in data-driven reporting.
Desired Characteristics
- Transformational Leadership & Cultural Influence: Proven ability to move safety culture from "reactive/compliant" to "proactive/interdependent," where every employee takes personal ownership of their safety and the safety of their peers.
- Strategic Analytical Mindset with data driven decision making & systematic problem solving approach
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent at breaking down organizational silos. Coordinates seamlessly between Operations, HR, Supply Chain, and Engineering to ensure EHS is baked into every workflow.
- Governmental Diplomacy: Professionalism and poise when interacting with regulatory bodies. Skilled in proactive advocacy and maintaining positive, transparent relationships with external inspectors and local government stakeholders.
- High-Performance Mindset: Maintains high energy and persistence in a fast-paced, 24/7 manufacturing environment. Operates with a sense of urgency when addressing safety risks or regulatory non-compliance.
- Commitment to Excellence: A "zero-harm" obsession paired with a growth mindset. Always looking for the next benchmarking opportunity or best practice from other GE Vernova sites or the global wind industry to implement at Vadodara.
