An Animal Shelter Technician position is available with the City of Fort Worth Code Compliance Division. This position will represent the City of Fort Worth by providing professional, courteous, quality care for animals at our animal shelter locations. This position may function as an adoption counselor and animal caretaker at either of our shelter locations, assist in our Outbound Team handling and maintaining partnerships or attending off-site adoption events.
The selected individual must be an affective communicator who is able to demonstrate diplomacy, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills while working with a culturally and ethnically diverse staff, volunteer and community base.
- This is a full-time position with benefits, working a minimum of 40 hours, subject to mandatory overtime

- To be considered you complete and pass the Cityβs Defensive Driving course
- This position may require you to travel to various locations
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- No Prior Experience Required
- Valid Texas Drivers License
- Must pass Drug Screen and Physical
Preferred Qualifications:
- Six (6) months of experience in animal control, or animal shelter settings with animal behavior and handling
- Six (6) months of experience in developing strong relationships within the community to foster a positive image
- Bilingual Skills
- Proficient in use of PetPoint shelter software system, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
The Animal Shelter Technician job responsibilities include:
- Feeding, watering, cleaning after and caring for animals
- Performing administrative duties, which include verifying animal ID numbers in PetPoint, answering phones, providing public information and answering high levels of time sensitive emails
- Facilitating intake/outcome processes
- Recruiting/Maintaining a good working relationship with partnering agencies, volunteers and fosters
- Driving city vehicles to transport animals from multiple locations as assigned
- Monitoring animals for any medical/behavioral issues
- Assesses animals and completing blood work and vaccinations
- Attending and/or hosting adoption events
Working Conditions and Physical Demand
Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on
assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises.
Heavy Work β Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
