Your new role...

Media Technology & Operations is a group passionate about building, operating, and supporting technology that enables storytellers to connect, entertain, and inform audiences worldwide.

The London Bureau Live Production Engineering team supports the CNN London newsroom, studios, and live production environments, delivering resilient, secure, and high availability broadcast and IT systems in a 24/7 news operation.

Your role accountabilities...

• Provide hands-on operational support for broadcast, production, and IT technology within a live, on air, fast paced newsroom and studio environment. 

• Support live production workflows, including studios, galleries, control rooms, edit areas, ingest, contribution, and newsroom systems, ensuring technology performs reliably during breaking news and scheduled broadcasts.

• Operate as a shift engineer, working proactively and independently during quieter periods, and collaboratively with production, editorial, and engineering teams during peak live output and major news events. Shift work, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, is a standard part of the role.

• Install, configure, and maintain broadcast and IT hardware, including workstations, servers, peripherals, and production-related systems, following established engineering and change processes.

• Use a wide range of computer based and broadcast tools with a high degree of competence, interacting across multiple layers of a modern production technology infrastructure.

• Actively participate in live incident response, fault diagnosis, and service restoration, maintaining calm, clear communication during high pressure, time critical situations.

• Communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, ensuring clear shift handovers, accurate incident updates, and knowledge sharing within the engineering team and with production partners.

• Proactively identify training and self development opportunities to grow skills in broadcast, IT, and emerging production technologies within a rapidly evolving media environment.

• Support the security and resilience of enterprise and broadcast infrastructure, working closely with cybersecurity and central IT teams to maintain compliance and protect on air systems.

• Organise and facilitate upgrades, maintenance, and changes using formal ITIL-based processes, with particular care taken around live production schedules and transmission risk.

• Assist with technology logistics, asset tracking, documentation, and spares management to ensure operational readiness for live output and major events.

• Perform other duties as assigned in support of live production, newsroom operations, and the wider Production Technology function.​

Qualifications and experiences...

• Approximately 5 years’ experience in a relevant broadcast, production technology, or IT engineering environment.

• Educated to BSc level (or equivalent experience) in Broadcast Engineering, Media Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

• A strong understanding of supporting a 24/7 news organisation with live broadcast output.

• Flexibility and willingness to work shift patterns, including unsociable hours, weekends, and public holidays.

• Availability for occasional travel, including international travel, to support major newsgathering or production events when required.

• A genuine interest in live production, broadcast technology, and news media, with a desire to build a long term career in the field.

• A proactive, hands on mindset; comfortable working in technical environments, troubleshooting issues, and taking ownership of problems through to resolution.

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly, set expectations, and remain calm under pressure.

• A strong work ethic, commitment to production technology, and the ability to multi task effectively in a dynamic live environment.

                                                                                                        

Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
