Description
We are ERock!
ERock is a leader and innovator in distributed energy. ERock has responded to long-term trends in electricity by becoming the first smart-grid supplier to U.S. energy consumers. The company installs, operates, and integrates highly flexible, low-cost, quick-response distributed generation to increase reliability and stability, reduce cost, and decrease carbon footprint.
At ERock, our generators help ensure customers have power when it matters most, allowing their businesses to continue operating during an area outage. Our innovative approach provides highly reliable, ultra-clean backup generation at a fraction of the cost of traditional backup solutions. We seek people who share our commitment to customer service, innovation, teamwork, and ingenuity.
What you'll do...
The NERC Compliance will help build ERock's internal North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) compliance capability as the company's project portfolio and grid-connected operating responsibilities expand. This role serves as the day-to-day internal owner for NERC compliance coordination, working closely with ERock leadership, project and operations teams, customers, and ERock's external NERC compliance advisor. The Specialist will translate regulatory requirements into practical actions, maintain compliance evidence and calendars, support filings and portal submissions, and progressively build ERock's internal capability.
Requirements
You'll make an impact by:
Primary Responsibilities
- Serve as ERock's day-to-day internal coordinator and subject-matter resource for NERC compliance matters across development, commissioning, and operating projects.
- Work directly with ERock's external NERC compliance advisor to interpret applicable NERC Reliability Standards, Regional Entity requirements, ISO/RTO requirements, and project-specific compliance obligations.
- Develop and maintain compliance calendars, obligation registers, evidence matrices, action trackers, and other program controls needed to ensure requirements are understood, assigned, and completed on time.
- Coordinate preparation of NERC registration materials, regulatory correspondence, self-certifications, data requests, filings, and ISO/RTO or Regional Entity portal submissions when assigned to ERock.
- Support contract and commercial reviews by identifying potential GO, GOP, JRO, CFR, or other reliability-compliance responsibilities before ERock accepts scope.
- Partner with Power Generation, O&M, NOC, Engineering, System Integration, Project Management, Legal, Commercial, and customer teams to translate compliance requirements into executable responsibilities and deliverables.
- Coordinate collection, organization, quality review, and retention of compliance evidence, including operating records, test results, procedures, drawings, models, training records, event documentation, and other required artifacts.
- Support NERC and Regional Entity audits, spot checks, data requests, self-certifications, compliance investigations, and remediation activities under the direction of ERock leadership and external advisors as appropriate.
- Assist with event analysis, potential noncompliance evaluation, mitigation planning, and preparation of self-reports or other notifications when required.
- Track changes to NERC Reliability Standards, Regional Entity guidance, ISO/RTO requirements, and related rules; communicate impacts and coordinate implementation with affected ERock teams.
- Develop practical procedures, checklists, templates, training materials, and internal guidance that make compliance requirements usable by project and operating personnel.
- Support NERC-related commissioning and testing activities by coordinating approved test plans, required technical inputs, evidence collection, and submission-ready documentation.
- Build working knowledge across ERock so routine NERC questions and project coordination no longer depend on executive-level operational ownership.
- Track external-advisor usage, project demand, and internal workload to help ERock determine when additional internal capability or a different long-term compliance model is warranted.
Organizational Scope
Direct Responsibility
- NERC compliance calendars, obligation tracking, evidence management, and recurring compliance coordination
- Coordination of regulatory, Regional Entity, and ISO/RTO filings and portal submissions assigned to ERock
- Internal NERC procedures, templates, training support, and compliance records
- Day-to-day coordination of work performed with ERock's external NERC compliance advisor
Key Partnerships
- Policy & External Affairs, Legal, Commercial, and Finance
- Power Generation, O&M East/West, NOC, Engineering, CSI, System Integration, Project Management, and Commissioning
- Customers, utilities, Generator Owners/Operators, ISO/RTOs, Regional Entities, and other reliability counterparties
- External NERC compliance advisors, consultants, testing firms, and technical subject-matter experts
Success Measures
- Clear internal ownership of NERC compliance coordination and reduced dependency on executive-level operational involvement
- Accurate and timely completion of compliance obligations, filings, submissions, and evidence packages
- Strong audit readiness and disciplined document and evidence retention
- Early identification of NERC responsibilities and risk during contract and project development
- Effective use of external advisor support with growing internal capability over time
- Timely implementation of new or revised NERC, Regional Entity, and ISO/RTO requirements
- Practical compliance procedures and training that operating teams can consistently execute
- Trusted working relationships with internal teams, customers, regulators, and external advisors
You'll sweep us off our feet if you:
You are comfortable operating between regulation and execution. You can read a reliability standard or compliance obligation, determine what it means for a real generating facility, and work with technical and operational teams to produce defensible evidence. You are organized enough to manage recurring deadlines across multiple projects, confident enough to ask difficult questions before ERock accepts an obligation, and collaborative enough to learn from external experts while steadily building the capability in house.
What you'll need:
- Three or more years of relevant experience in NERC reliability compliance, electric utility or generation compliance, power-system operations, regulatory affairs, or a closely related field; experience supporting multiple generating facilities or projects is strongly preferred.
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, business, energy, regulatory affairs, or a related field is preferred; equivalent utility, generation, military, or compliance experience will be considered.
- Working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards and the roles and responsibilities of registered Generator Owners and Generator Operators; familiarity with NERC registration structures and Regional Entity processes is preferred.
- Experience maintaining compliance evidence, calendars, procedures, self-certifications, audit materials, regulatory submissions, or similar controlled compliance records.
- Ability to interpret technical and regulatory requirements and translate them into clear actions for engineering, commissioning, operations, and management teams.
- Strong project-management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple deadlines, projects, counterparties, and evidence requests simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain NERC requirements to technical and non-technical stakeholders and prepare clear, defensible compliance documentation.
- Familiarity with one or more U.S. ISO/RTO or Regional Entity environments is preferred; experience with Texas RE/ERCOT, WECC, MISO, or other regions relevant to ERock projects is a plus.
- Ability to travel periodically to ERock facilities, project sites, customer meetings, audits, or industry events and to support time-sensitive compliance matters when required.
