Description

Determined, imaginative, curious—if these are some of the ways you describe yourself, we want to learn more about you!

At TC Energy, we are proud to connect the world to the energy it needs. Guided by our values of safety in every step, personal accountability, one team and active learning, we deliver the critical energy that North America and the world rely on while balancing reliability, affordability and sustainability.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to provide significant ownership and autonomy in the execution of Growth and Interconnect projects. The successful candidate will combine hands-on natural gas facility design experience with strong project execution judgment and will lead multiple projects from early development through construction, commissioning, and asset handover. This role requires the ability to understand technical details, anticipate procurement and schedule impacts, lead internal and third-party engineering resources, and collaborate effectively to resolve issues and deliver safe, compliant, and reliable facilities.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead engineering activities for multiple concurrent Growth and Interconnect projects, including natural gas pipelines, meter stations, regulator stations, customer receipt and delivery points, hot taps, laterals, and related facilities.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership for meter station and facility design, including development or review of design bases, PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, calculations, equipment data sheets, material requisitions, technical evaluations, bills of material, and construction packages.
  • Select, size, or review the specification of facility equipment and components, including filters and separators, valves and actuators, regulators, metering equipment, piping systems, pressure-control equipment, and related station systems.
  • Support early project development by gathering and evaluating operating, site, customer, regulatory, and technical data to establish the engineering approach, scope, execution strategy, schedule, estimate, and key risks.
  • Own engineering scope, schedules, deliverables, interfaces, and resource planning from concept development through detailed design, construction, commissioning, closeout, and asset handover.
  • Develop, maintain, and interpret engineering and material procurement schedules; identify dependencies, critical milestones, and schedule risks; and communicate the project impacts of delays.
  • Identify long-lead equipment and materials early, establish procurement priorities, and initiate purchasing activities at the appropriate stage to protect construction and commissioning commitments.
  • Prepare engineering contractor procurement packages, evaluate proposals, select engineering service providers, and manage engineering contracts in collaboration with Supply Chain Management and project stakeholders.
  • Oversee internal and third-party engineering resources, monitor performance, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements, company specifications, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Lead multidisciplinary design reviews and coordinate input from Engineering, Project Management, Construction, Operations, Commercial, Supply Chain Management, customers, consultants, and technical subject matter experts.
  • Exercise sound engineering judgment when reviewing and approving engineering deliverables, resolving design conflicts, evaluating alternatives, and making recommendations that affect cost, schedule, operability, reliability, and asset performance.
  • Provide field engineering support during construction, including constructability reviews, site visits, bid and kickoff meetings, resolution of Requests for Information (RFIs), design changes, nonconformances, and installation issues.
  • Support commissioning and startup activities, resolve technical deficiencies, complete assigned readiness actions, and ensure technical documentation, turnover records, and lessons learned are complete.
  • Proactively identify the effects of scope changes, late decisions, vendor data, procurement delays, and engineering slippage; develop practical mitigation or recovery plans and communicate tradeoffs to the project team.
  • Resolve disagreements constructively by clarifying requirements, evaluating technical and project impacts, engaging the appropriate stakeholders, and building alignment around a documented path forward.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, external customers, regulators, consultants, suppliers, and construction partners.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to peers and team members while promoting knowledge sharing, accountability, collaboration, safety, integrity, and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive engineering and project execution experience in the natural gas, pipeline, or energy industry.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience designing or reviewing natural gas meter stations or related facilities, including equipment selection or specification and review of multidisciplinary engineering deliverables.
  • Experience with meter stations, regulator stations, interconnect facilities, customer receipt and delivery points, hot taps, lateral pipelines, or comparable natural gas facilities.
  • Experience leading or coordinating projects through development, detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, startup, closeout, and asset handover.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or engineering workstreams concurrently while balancing technical quality, schedule, cost, risk, resources, and stakeholder commitments.
  • Experience developing, maintaining, or interpreting engineering and procurement schedules, including identification of dependencies, critical-path activities, delay impacts, and recovery actions.
  • Experience identifying, specifying, evaluating, or procuring long-lead equipment and materials and understanding how procurement timing and vendor data affect project execution.
  • Working knowledge of natural gas engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements, including 49 CFR Part 192 and applicable pipeline and facility design standards.
  • Experience managing third-party engineering consultants, engineering deliverables, contracts, design reviews, technical bid evaluations, and contractor performance.
  • Experience providing technical support during construction and commissioning, including responding to RFIs, resolving design conflicts, and addressing field or constructability issues.
  • Strong engineering judgment, communication, collaboration, negotiation, conflict-resolution, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with significant ownership and autonomy, recognize when specialist input is required, and drive timely, well-documented decisions in a fast-paced project environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading Growth, Expansion, or Interconnect projects from concept development through commissioning and asset handover.
  • Direct experience with natural gas meter or regulator station design, including filters or separators, valves and actuators, pressure regulation, metering, piping, controls, and associated facility systems.
  • Knowledge of commercial drivers, customer requirements, capacity expansion opportunities, and schedule commitments associated with natural gas transmission projects.
  • Familiarity with FERC-regulated facilities and interstate natural gas pipeline operations.
  • Experience working for an engineering design firm, engineering service provider, owner/operator, or in a role managing engineering service providers.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification.
