DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES:
At Health & Human Services, we serve our community through the values of support, unity, trust and excellence with one common goal: to promote and protect the health, well-being, safety and self-sufficiency of all in Marin. Join our team of bright, committed, and energetic people who also want to make an impact through public service.

We are searching for Mental Health Registered Nurses (RN) interested in positions who have previous experience working in a mental health setting. We currently have 1 extra hire (per diem) position at the CSU. All shifts and weekends will have open shifts.

The RN will function as the registered nurse on duty at the Marin County Crisis Stabilization Unit, which is on the campus of Marin Health. In this role the nurse will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including crisis specialists and a psychiatrist. The nurse will also work in cooperation with community partners. The nurse will perform nursing assessments and screen for urgent or emergent medical issues to determine appropriate level of treatment based on assessment findings. The nurse will administer medication, including I.M. medication, and will monitor for efficacy as well as adverse effects. The RN will participate in the application of physical restraints as required and will make use of crisis intervention skills and utilize management of assaultive behavioral techniques.

Our Highly Qualified Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess the Psychiatric Nursing skills needed to function independently on all shifts, in consultation with a psychiatrist. The successful candidate will be able to communicate and work effectively with an interdisciplinary team. The candidate will be comfortable working in an environment that serves clients with severe mental illness, substance abuse issues, medical comorbidities and who are in crisis. Our clients range from child age to elderly clients. They will have sound medical judgment in screening for substance use problems as well as triaging for urgent and emergent medical conditions that warrant more extensive medical evaluation. They will have excellent documentation skills and be comfortable documenting in an electronic health record. They will possess sound clinical judgment and be able to demonstrate critical thinking in rapidly changing circumstances. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of healthcare privacy law (HIPAA), especially as it relates to the care of clients in mental healthcare settings.
