Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU) and the Threat and Advanced Simulations Development (TASD) program has an exciting career opportunity for an Agile Release Train engineer (RTE) - Level 4 to join our team of qualified and diverse leaders at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Position Overview:

The Northrop Grumman Threat and Advanced Simulations Development (TASD) supports a wide range of Missile Defense Agency (MDA) directorates with multiple products and capabilities.  As a member of the team, you will be working with a talented group supporting the Missile Defense Agency’s critical engineering mission. As an Agile RTE, the selected candidate will facilitate Agile Release Train (ART) processes and execution, escalate impediments, manage risk, ensure value delivery, and drive continuous improvement.

The selected candidate will be a leader on the program and will facilitate efforts to:

  • Establish ART and program level Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) engineering and management principles and processes, facilitate ART events, support multiple teams throughout a program increment by helping them overcome barriers and effectively plan out their work and execute on the plan, facilitate program increment planning, collaborate across the organization, and work directly with the Government customer regarding plans, execution statuses and issues.
  • Understanding SAFe at Northrop Grumman will be essential, along with the responsibility to help grow and mature this NG branded capability.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the efforts of developing SAFe engineering and management best practices and processes
  • Ensures value is being delivered to the customer and aligns technical, business, and execution strategies
  • Removes impediments to progress and escalates when necessary
  • Proactively identifies, mitigates, and manages risks 
  • Builds and supports multiple, self-organizing cross-functional teams
  • Facilitates PI Planning efforts and execution
  • Understand and facilitate the Agile mindset and concepts such as continuous improvement, test-driven development, and product demonstration
  • Practices servant leadership and champion the Agile mindset through coaching and mentoring
  • Collects, analyzes and reports metrics for trends and indicators
  • Has a deep understanding of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Regularly interacts with the customer, Product Management, Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and various leadership
  • Participates in Earned Value Management (EVM) tracking and reporting
  • Position may require up to 25% travel

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of related work experience, or a Master's Degree in STEM and 6 years of related work experience, or 4 years of related work experience with a PhD in STEM.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a RTE or Scrum Master (or similar relatable experience - i.e. Professional Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Practitioner, PMI Agile Certified Practitioner, etc.)
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.
  • Experience interacting with Government Stakeholders
  • Experience implementing Agile principles and practices within DoD or Federal government environments
  • Experience with Agile Lifecycle Management tools, preferably JIRA
  • Background in software development or software development management
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time to support business needs.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science from an accredited college
  • Certification in one or more of these designations is desired: SAFe Release Train Engineer certification, SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) certification, Leading SAFe certification, Certified Scrum at Scale Practitioner, Certified Agile Coach, Certified facilitator, Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Certified Scrum Trainer, or Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • 1 year of experience with Missile Defense, Missile Warning and Space Situational Awareness missions
  • Knowledge of System Engineering principles and requirements management
  • End-to-end Agile engineering practices, including value stream or Scrum or Extreme Programming within software, infrastructure, hardware, and operational environments
  • Understands Earned Value Management principles
  • Understands basic DevSecOps principles

Primary Level Salary Range: $129,300.00 - $193,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
