Responsibilities:

LLE is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical engineer to support Cryogenic & Tritium Facility operations producing and supporting tritium filled targets for use on the Omega Laser system. Work will include supporting cryogenic and vacuum systems through data-driven analysis, technical evaluation, and hands-on operation and testing. This role is ideal for a candidate with a strong STEM background who enjoys problem-solving, working with technical equipment, and collaborating across engineering teams.

The successful candidate must be willing to work shift assignments when required, including overnight hours, to support operational needs and testing schedules.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Complete qualification and stand watch in operation of the cryogenic and tritium facility including non-standard shift hours as needed  
• Maintaining radiological containment areas. 
• Perform maintenance activities per procedure 
• Conduct laboratory and field-testing using equipment such as oscilloscopes and other diagnostic tools 
• Support projects through validation and verification activities by performing structured test using test plan 
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including scientists, engineers, and technicians 
• Other duties as assigned 

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in STEM field and 1 year of relevant experience required
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills preferred
• Have experience with chemistry operations (chemical separation, process control, etc) preferred
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics preferred
• Have experience performing radiological management activities preferred. 
• Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Excel, or similar platforms) preferred
• Prior experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment preferred
• Qualifying as a NYS Radiation Worker within 12 months of being hired preferred. 
• Attention to detail preferred
• Strong organizational skills preferred
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment preferred
• Adaptability to shifting priorities and schedules preferred
