Job Description

We are seeking a motivated Piping Designer Co-Op to join our Piping Engineering team starting in January 2027 on a 12 month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a student to gain practical experience working on engineering and design projects while developing their technical skills in piping design.

The successful candidate will work closely with experienced engineers and designers and will have the opportunity to contribute to projects from the design and development stages through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and modification of piping layouts and design drawings.
  • Prepare and update piping plans, isometrics, and related design documentation.
  • Assist with 3D piping modelling and equipment layout.
  • Support the preparation of piping design deliverables in accordance with project requirements and applicable codes and standards.
  • Review drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Assist engineers and designers with design calculations, material take-offs, and technical documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews and coordination with other engineering disciplines.
  • Incorporate design changes and respond to project comments.
  • Follow company engineering, design, quality, and safety procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Support Engineers by developing detailed layouts and design documentation from engineering concepts and calculations.
  • Assist with equipment layout, routing, and spatial coordination within existing facilities.
  • Assist with vendor coordination by preparing and reviewing drawings and technical documentation.
  • Ensure drawings and design outputs comply with corporate engineering standards, drafting practices, and document control procedures.
  • Follow applicable Canadian codes and standards (CSA, ASME, ISO) as directed by engineering leadership.
  • Maintain drawing accuracy and revision control in corporate document management systems.
  • Work closely with engineers, manufacturing, maintenance, procurement, and project teams to ensure design intent is clearly communicated.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and field modifications by updating “as-built” documentation.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Previous coursework or exposure to piping design, mechanical design, drafting, or engineering fundamentals is an asset.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, Inventor, or other CAD/design software is an asset.
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings and drafting principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Wage:

  • $23.50/hour - $26.50/hour
