Department Overview
The Cobalt Services area is responsible for the entire lifecycle of essential shared services in the Command Central cloud-native software suite, offering capabilities such as the Events Pipeline, Rules Engine, Unit and Device management, Mapping, GIS, and Messaging services, which integrate and support multiple mission-critical products across the organization. The Cobalt Services DevOps team of experts operates as a Center of Excellence (CoE) by fostering a culture of operational excellence, managing the cloud infrastructure, deployments, and pipelines, and defining and enforcing a set of best practices and automation standards.
Job Description
We are seeking a proactive Mid-Level DevOps Engineer (Azure) to join our team as a hands-on force behind our cloud infrastructure and continuous delivery transformation. In this role, you will partner directly with development teams to optimize release processes, automate cloud provisioning, and maintain containerized environments on a daily basis.
We prioritize strong foundational skills in our core technologies over encyclopedic knowledge of every secondary tool. If you bring solid core competencies in Azure, Terraform, GitHub Actions, and Kubernetes, we provide the environment and resources to help you expand your tooling knowledge on the job. Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is welcome.
Basic Requirements
Cloud Infrastructure & Infrastructure as Code
Terraform to design, implement, and maintain scalable, high-availability cloud infrastructure within Microsoft Azure
Cloud Automation to help to provide reliable, repeatable environments and streamline provisioning across development and production
Operational Quality to observe operational metrics, analyze performance bottlenecks, and help to ensure continuous platform reliability
CI/CD Pipeline & Delivery Modernization
GitHub Actions to build, maintain, and optimize modern CI/CD release pipelines that empower developer teams
GitOps Methodologies to promote automated deployment patterns and maintain declarative infrastructure configurations
Workflow Efficiency to help to integrate continuous feedback loops and automated validation into release workflows
Container Orchestration & Reliability
Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) to contribute to hands-on deployment, maintenance, and scaling of containerized applications
Escalation Support to serve as a key technical contributor for escalated infrastructure issues and maintain platform stability
On-Call Support to participate in an after-hours on-call rotation to address critical system downtime and maintain platform availability
Basic Requirements
High School Diploma or Bachelor's Degree
4+ years of DevOps experience supporting cloud infrastructure environments with Microsoft Azure

Technical Expertise
Microsoft Azure & Terraform to build and manage automated cloud environments in production settings
GitHub Actions to construct and maintain scalable CI/CD pipelines
Kubernetes (AKS/EKS) to manage, maintain, and scale containerized application environments
Scripting to automate routine system tasks using PowerShell, Python, or Bash
English Proficiency to effectively communicate complex technical information in English, both verbally and in writing, with global teams
Professional Experience
Foundational DevOps to apply continuous integration and continuous deployment principles to daily release workflows
Pragmatic Problem-Solving to simplify complex technical architectures and help to streamline developer workflows
Collaborative Support to partner directly with engineering feature teams and foster continuous delivery improvements
Preferred Qualifications (Optional)
Exposure to GitOps delivery tools such as Argo CD or Flux CD
Basic conceptual understanding of security scanning tools such as SonarQube, OWASP ZAP, Mend, or Twistlock
Basic familiarity with monitoring and logging platforms such as Kibana, Grafana, Datadog, or Azure Monitor
Broad exposure to secondary cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Interest in leveraging AI-assisted workflows (such as Priority Intelligence™ and Assist capabilities) to assist with code generation and pipeline troubleshooting
Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional certification
