Health & Safety Supervisor
At Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS), health & safety (H&S) is a core value and a critical component of every project we build. The Health & Safety Supervisor provides leadership, direction, and oversight for all project-specific health and safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
This position will be close to Monroe, LA.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Maintain and apply an expert knowledge of the ESS H&S standards, programs and goals.
Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a project-specific Health and Safety Management Plan.
Promote and foster ESS H&S standards and goals with programs throughout the project to confirm a safe and productive work environment
Prepare, maintain, interpret and communicate records, reports, or documents that may be required to meet corporate or regulatory requirements, including monitoring application of H&S standards and goals through its programs
Lead site-specific safety orientations for employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, applicable federal, state, and local requirements, and client-specific safety standards.
Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and hazard assessments to identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Investigate incidents, near misses, injuries, and property damage events, completing required reports and recommending preventive measures.
Serve as a liaison with clients, insurance representatives, and regulatory agencies regarding audits, incident investigations, workers' compensation matters, and corrective action plans.
Support project leadership in creating and maintaining a culture of H&S excellence throughout all phases of construction.
Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and subcontractors to proactively address safety concerns and improve site performance.
Monitor project safety metrics and trends and provide recommendations to project leadership to achieve company safety goals and objectives.
Facilitate toolbox talks, pre-task plans, safety meetings, and other employee engagement activities.
Mentor and support field supervision and less experienced safety professionals in the application of ESS H&S standards and best practices.
Participate in project planning meetings and provide safety guidance throughout project execution.
Establish and maintain communications with client representatives and project staff through meetings, phone conferences and emails to provide for client satisfaction
Establish basic performance criteria and specifications for executing work and review the project regularly to confirm compliance with ESS, client, and governing authorities
Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines
Plan and organize own work assignments, as well as carry out tasks from management staff
Meet expectations on attendance and punctuality
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Accredited four (4) year bachelor’s degree in related field and six (6) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to ten (10) years if non-degreed
CSP, ASP or CHST certification required
OSHA 30-Hour within the past 3 years
Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to
management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job; strong understanding of safety principles and regulations
Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience in developing and implementing safety programs
Experience in conducting H&S audits and investigations
Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with team members at all levels
Ability to work both day and night shifts in alignment with crew schedules
