Position Overview:
Ameresco has an opportunity for a Project Cost Accountant reporting to the Director of Project Accounting and FP&A. In this role, you will undertake financial and project analysis and reporting, providing essential support to business units and their leadership. You will spearhead full-cycle project accounting and financial analysis, supporting units comprising energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, recurring operations and maintenance contracts, a portfolio of energy asset investments, and tightly managed operating expenses. The ideal candidate will possess a strong accounting background, preferably in a public company setting, with expertise in U.S. GAAP principles and cross-functional collaboration. This is a hybrid opportunity based out of our Framingham, MA office.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with multiple business units to provide accounting support and solutions for various challenges, including project cost and WIP analysis and maintenance.
Utilize accounting system (Microsoft D365) to drive the billing and invoicing process for contracts.
Project initiation, maintenance, and closeout within accounting system.
Effectively communicate with Project Managers (PMs) and Business Unit financial analysts regarding contract documents, project set-up, change orders and any modifications.
Monitor project percent complete calculations and ensure alignment with approved project estimates at completion.
Review project budgets, committed costs, and forecast changes to identify financial risks and opportunities.
Work with Project Managers and Business Units to assess and monitor estimated completion dates and budgets.
Conduct monthly project workbook reviews with Project Managers, Construction Directors, and Business Unit V.P.’s, analyzing individual project status, direct costs, cost accruals, and capitalized costs, updating project forecasts, adjusting project budgets, and finalizing project analysis and closeouts.
Prepare cost adjustment general ledger entries and collaborate with the corporate general ledger accounting team to process adjustments in the appropriate accounting period.
Assist in maintaining project accounting policies and procedures and ensure timely closure of books in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
Provide support for external SEC filings and financial statement audits as needed.
Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 1 year of relevant accounting or finance experience, preferably in project accounting or financial management.
Solid understanding and application of generally accepted accounting principles.
Strong grasp of financial principles, budgeting, and financial analysis.
Proficiency in MS Office with advanced Excel skills.
Additional Qualifications:
Experience in construction, energy efficiency projects, or similar industries is preferred.
Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics D365 and Adaptive Insights, or similar financial and planning systems, is a plus.
Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail coupled with the ability to understand and communicate the big picture.
Effective written communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information concisely.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Experience managing cross-functional processes and building trust across organizational levels while maintaining confidentiality and credibility.
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $64,000 - $92,500 (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.
Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This range supports our commitment to pay transparency and compliance with applicable laws. Compensation may vary by work location, including remote arrangements.
