Overview

The Director of Community and Partnerships develops, manages, and grows Cluny’s network of donors, foundation officers, entrepreneurs, academics, filmmakers, event attendees, and friends. The position owns the Institute's CRM and partners with the CTO to build a digital community platform that strengthens relationships and engagement. It serves as community lead for The Visible Sign, Cluny’s anticipated four-year Lilly Endowment-funded storytelling initiative, coordinating its creative network, audience engagement, distribution relationships, and grant-aligned community-building. The Director also supports the Founder and Director and the Chief of Staff on donor cultivation, advancement, foundation relationships, sponsorships, and institutional partnerships, and identifies service opportunities that integrate the corporal works of mercy into Cluny’s community.

 

The projected salary for this position, which represents the full range of anticipated compensation, is: $75,000.

Responsibilities

• Serve as community lead for The Visible Sign and coordinate with production leadership to align community-building with the film calendar and grant deliverables.
• Build and steward the initiative's network of filmmakers, story advisors, and production partners so directors feel known and supported from selection through release.
• Cultivate relationships with film festivals, screening hosts, and distribution partners to connect each film with appropriate audiences.
• Design and run audience engagement around the films in coordination with The Human Worker, converting viewers into lasting members of the Cluny community.
• Own the Institute’s CRM end to end, including architecture, data hygiene, segmentation, pipeline tracking, and workflows.
• Track and steward relationships across Institute constituencies, including attendees, speakers, donors, partners, and friends, with consistent and personal follow-through.
• Design and manage follow-up after major convenings, including Cluny Encounters, ZOË, and other events, so participation develops into lasting relationships.
• Identify and cultivate rising members of the Cluny community who should be drawn into deeper engagement.
• Partner with the Institute’s CTO to design and build the digital community platform, gather member needs, seed early conversations, and establish the tone and norms of the space.
• Support major donor cultivation and stewardship through research, briefings, correspondence, and reliable follow-through.
• Manage the pipeline of foundation relationships and grant-stewardship touchpoints.
• Lead sponsorship development for Institute conferences and events, from prospecting through fulfillment.
• Help shape and execute an annual advancement plan with the Founder and Director and the Chief of Staff.
• Identify, evaluate, and manage institutional partnerships and creative collaborators that extend the Institute’s mission and reach, serving as a reliable first point of contact.
• Identify and coordinate service opportunities for staff and event attendees that integrate the corporal works of mercy into Cluny’s community life.

Qualifications

No specific degree required; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

 

Minimum three years (three to seven preferred) in development, advancement, partnerships, community engagement, or a comparable relationship-driven role. Experience cultivating external relationships and cross-functional initiatives; nonprofit, higher education, media/arts, or startup experience preferred.
