Associate Principal Scientist

As Associate Principal Scientist, you will support new product development and process improvement initiatives to ensure high standards of research quality and compliance.

We’re looking to recruit an Associate Principal Scientist, reporting to the Senior Manager - ALFIE, based in Singapore.

This role contributes advanced technical expertise to support R&D projects, focusing on utilizing comprehensive knowledge to drive scientific innovation and problem-solving within the team.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Translate starch modification protocols from manual laboratory experiments into scalable automated reactor processes.
• Execute automated process recipes and process control using industrial process control systems, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS) or equivalent technologies.
• Troubleshoot and improve automated reaction processes and performance.
• Partner with ingredients R&D teams to convert scientific and innovation objectives into executable automated campaigns, evaluate experimental feasibility and generate scalable engineering knowledge

• Partner with Process Development, Digitalization, IT and external technology providers / vendors to implement, enhance and troubleshoot automation systems and process capabilities.

• Drive process and automation improvements through process data analysis, technology capability development, equipment modification recommendations and CAPEX improvement initiatives.

• Ensure safe, reliable and compliant operation of automated process equipment in accordance with company quality and safety standards.
• Conduct research to support new product development and process improvement projects, applying comprehensive scientific knowledge to solve challenges within the team.
• Assist project teams in designing experiments and methodologies, ensuring adherence to scientific and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Innovation and R&D to apply research findings to product development and process improvements, supporting team-wide priorities and targets.
• Support intellectual property development within the team by contributing to patents, publications and technical presentations.
• Participate in technical discussions and project reviews with management, offering insights and recommendations to support team objectives.

Location

This role is assigned to our Singapore office located in Biopolis (Buona Vista MRT)

What You’ll have

• Master’s degree in chemical engineering / chemistry/ mechanical engineering / Materials Science / Biotechnology, or a related scientific/engineering discipline with 4–7 years of relevant industrial experience; OR
• PhD in a relevant discipline with approximately 3-6 years of relevant industrial experience is an added advantage.
• Equivalent combinations of education, technical expertise and demonstrated industrial achievements will also be considered.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Product / Process Research & Development procedures, with full knowledge of methodologies, processes, practices, and atypical issues within product and process development in the food and beverage industry
• Frequently conducts detailed analysis and investigation to identify innovative solutions for Product / Process R&D problems or needs, determine best options or suggest improvements to existing methods
• This role involves initiating communication with cross-functional teams to address and resolve shared issues, collaborate on processes, and interpret or clarify technical information to enhance understanding
