Department Overview

The Global Ad Technology Department (GATD) manages the advertising systems that power Rakuten. We are a cross-functional, data-driven organization with a diverse team spread across five countries, including Japan, Singapore, India, and China.

Our mission is to ensure that system implementation, delivery, and maintenance are carried out smoothly across GATD. We are also responsible for strengthening the department's engineering capabilities by sharing technical knowledge and skills across teams.

Position Details

・ Write, extend, and maintain automated test plans and scripts.

・ Design, execute, and automate tests for backend and, at times, frontend applications across a variety of architectures and cutting-edge technologies.

・ Architect automation frameworks, define automation strategies, and develop automated tests to validate use cases against product specifications and requirements.

・ Work closely with engineering and product teams to prioritize testing, ensure comprehensive coverage, and report execution progress and results.

・ Participate in design and specification reviews and use the information to design test plans.

・ Assist cross-functional teams with troubleshooting and problem identification.

・ Champion QA best practices and contribute to continuous QA process improvement.

・ Stay current with emerging technologies, particularly AI and agentic systems, and apply this knowledge to testing strategies.

Work Environment

Our QA team consists of around 10 members and offers a global working environment where both English and Japanese are used.

We continuously improve the team's QA knowledge through weekly certification study sessions, including ISTQB. We maintain a healthy work-life balance and conduct regular one-on-one meetings to create a safe and comfortable working environment.

Mandatory Qualifications:

・ More than five years of experience in application test design and implementation

・ Experience developing API/UI test automation and conducting non-functional testing

・ Knowledge equivalent to ISTQB Foundation Level

・ Ability to communicate effectively while engaging stakeholders

・ Solid programming fundamentals, strong object-oriented concepts, and proficiency in one or more languages such as Python or Java

・ Understanding of AI and agentic systems, including how AI workflows and autonomous agents are tested and validated

・ Strong understanding of QA practices, methodologies, and approaches

・ Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills

・ Experience in test planning, design, and implementation

・ E-commerce domain knowledge
