Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our Trade and International Banking team as Team Leader. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the execution of international payment and trade finance operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing operational risks, and delivering exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for a results-driven individual with strong technical expertise in trade finance and international banking to contribute to business growth, revenue generation, operational excellence, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities

International Payments Operations

  • Authorise and oversee the processing of international payment transactions within agreed service level standards and turnaround times.
  • Ensure compliance with Exchange Control, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements for all payment transactions.
  • Monitor adherence to internal controls, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and approve international payment transactions in line with delegated authority levels.
  • Ensure departmental reconciliations are completed accurately and timeously.
  • Monitor compliance with payment cut-off times and service level agreements.

Trade Finance Operations

  • Review, authorise, and oversee trade finance transactions within the banking system.
  • Provide guidance to clients and business units on appropriate trade finance solutions, including: Letters of Credit (LCs), Bank Guarantees, and Documentary Collections
  • Ensure compliance with international trade finance rules and regulations, including Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits (UCP).
  • Support business development initiatives through the promotion and delivery of trade finance products and services.

Risk Management and Controls

  • Ensure strict adherence to operating procedures, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor transaction processing to identify and mitigate operational risks, errors, and revenue leakages.
  • Enforce compliance with Exchange Control regulations and AML/KYC requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to internal transaction limits and risk management frameworks.
  • Support internal and external audit processes and implement corrective actions where required.

Leadership and People Management

  • Lead, motivate, and develop team members to achieve departmental and organisational objectives.
  • Identify training and development needs and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Coordinate departmental leave plans and resource allocation.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to team members.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and high performance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Banking, Finance, Business Studies, Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional Banking or Trade Finance qualifications will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' supervisory experience within a Trade Finance, International Banking, or International Payments environment.
  • Proven knowledge of international banking products and services.
  • Strong experience in cross-border payments and trade finance instruments, including Letters of Credit, Guarantees, and Documentary Collections.
