Essential Job Functions
- Receive visitors, answer phone calls, coordinate appointments and meetings, open and distribute mail, and provide general clerical support.
- Compose and prepare correspondence, reports, contracts, and other materials.
- Gather, assemble and summarize information and data for executive action as requested.
- Provide transmittals to the Board of County Commissioners for all actions requiring BOCC approval.
- Prepare and disseminate required notices according to regulations for various land use cases.
- Encumber purchase orders, receive ordered goods and services, process invoices for payment, and perform other bookkeeping duties on behalf of the Highway Engineering & Development Services division.
- Perform other pertinent administrative tasks for the department as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge in clerical procedures and records; of spelling, punctuation, business English; of office methods and procedures; of laws, ordinances and regulations governing County financial matters; of departmental policies and procedures; of computer functions, such as Microsoft software such as Word, Excel, and Access; and of other services provided or available in the community.
Skill in receiving visitors; in maintaining accurate records and files; in proofreading; in operating a computer, calculator, and other related office machines; in Microsoft Office.
Ability to organize and accomplish a variety of clerical duties; to exercise initiative and independent judgement; to perceive clerical errors; to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to understand and follow departmental policies and procedures; to maintain confidential information; to exercise tact, patience, and courtesy in dealing with others; to speak clearly, distinctly and in a pleasing tone; and to cooperate and work with others.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.

Education and/or Experience
Education equivalent to graduation from a standard four-year high school, including or supplemented by college or business courses in typing, record keeping, and three years of satisfactory full-time employment in a secretarial/clerical, or a combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, fractions, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, of diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
