SUMMARY OF POSITION
As a key member of the Financial Services team, the Senior Accounting Technician is to perform administrative and technical duties relating to governmental accounting, auditing, and financial reporting. The positions are assigned in the areas of Accounts Payable, Investments & Treasury, or Payroll. Tasks include transaction processing, data entry, account research, transaction auditing, and customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides administrative support to Financial Service divisions.
- Processes data entry transactions into the City’s financial system.
- Prepare monthly journals and regularly reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Writes queries and reports for financial analysis.
- Relieves management staff of routine administrative tasks.
- Assist departments with general ledger inquiries and accounting questions.
- Assists in the preparation and compilation of audit workpapers and fiscal year end activities.
- Participates in special projects at the request of management.
- Complies with City policies and procedures to include work schedule and attendance policies.
If Assigned to Treasury:
- Records cash, checks and electronic deposits into the financial system.
- Processes departmental invoices and travel requests for payment.
- Researches returned checks for reissuance/voiding
- Maintains citywide petty cash drawer to include reconciliation with the general ledger.
- Assists with the bank reconciliation processes.
- Handles unclaimed property and escheatment activities
- Facilitates the connection and disconnection of City utility services.

Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the below Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute.
High school diploma or GED supplemented by college level course work in accounting/business and three (3) years of previous experience and/or training that include accounting/bookkeeping. Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen. Governmental experience preferred in finance/accounting.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must pass a drug screen and background check.
- Must have Class C Texas Driver’s License.
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station. Some tasks require visual and sound perception and discrimination and oral communications ability.
