The role

We are looking for a Senior Marine Fuels Specialist to serve as a trusted technical expert across Maersk's global fuel operations. In this role, you will lead investigations into fuel quality and performance issues, support the testing and implementation of new fuel solutions, and provide expert guidance on fuel-related risks, standards, and operational challenges.

Working closely with vessel operations, fuel sourcing, engineering teams, suppliers, laboratories, and industry partners, you will play a key role in ensuring that the fuels powering our fleet are safe, reliable, compliant, and fit for purpose today while helping shape the fuel solutions of tomorrow

Key responsibilities

Fuel Quality and Technical Assurance

  • Act as Maersk's technical expert on marine fuel quality, performance, and offer advise on operational risk.
  • Lead investigations of fuel quality, fuel performance, quantity disputes, and other fuel-related issues.
  • Support fuel-related claims and support commercial settlements.
  • Conduct technical risk assessments to support fuel sourcing and deployment.
  • Offer advice on blend standards and other technical aspects to fuel traders, operators, and compliance people across the organization 

Alternative Fuels and Testing

  • Support testing and implementation of conventional (fossil and biofuel) and emerging marine fuels.
  • Assist on field-testing of fuels.
  • Evaluate new fuel performance, compatibility, and operational suitability.
  • Translate trial results into operational guidance, standards, and recommendations.
  • Provide technical input to Maersk's fuel transition strategy.

Risk, Compliance, and Industry Engagement

  • Support monitoring of fuel-related regulations, standards, and industry developments.
  • Support assurance activities involving fuel suppliers, laboratories, and surveyors.
  • Identify fuel-related risks and drive corrective actions.
  • Represent Maersk in industry forums, OEM working groups, and standardisation bodies.
  • Share technical knowledge and support capability development across the organisation.

What You Will Bring

  • 10+ years of experience in marine fuels markets or related energy industries.
  • A team player mindset with strong stakeholder management skills
  • Strong knowledge of marine fuel specifications, quality assessment, laboratory testing, and fuel performance.
  • Proven experience investigating and resolving complex fuel-related technical issues.
  • Experience supporting vessel operations, fuel trials, or implementation of new fuels.
  • Strong understanding of fuel risk management and assurance processes.
  • Ability to work effectively with vessel crews, technical specialists, suppliers, laboratories, OEMs, and senior management.
