About Our Client
Our client is a specialized industrial services organization supporting customers across the oil & gas, power generation, and industrial sectors. Through field operations, equipment deployment, maintenance programs, and technical service delivery, the organization helps customers maintain safe, reliable, and efficient operations across multiple sites throughout Canada.
The Director of Operations will play a key leadership role in overseeing Canadian field operations, supporting asset utilization and equipment readiness, and ensuring consistent service delivery across multiple locations. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with field teams, operational leaders, and customers while contributing directly to the performance of Canadian operations.
Key Responsibilities
As the Director of Operations, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Canadian field operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, asset readiness, and high-quality service delivery while supporting operational performance and continuous improvement initiatives.
Field Operations Management
- Manage lead operators, field technicians, and support staff across Canadian operations.
- Ensure operational activities meet customer requirements and service expectations.
- Coordinate field resources to support day-to-day operations and service delivery.
- Support operational execution across multiple Canadian locations.
Asset Management & Fleet Utilization
- Oversee asset tracking, utilization, and deployment of the rental equipment fleet across Canadian locations.
- Ensure asset availability by coordinating maintenance, logistics, and operational schedules.
- Support equipment readiness to align with customer requirements and service demands.
- Collaborate with internal teams to improve asset visibility and utilization.
Maintenance & Equipment Reliability
- Execute preventative maintenance and repair programs.
- Coordinate maintenance scheduling, turnaround times, and cost-control activities.
- Support the reliability, availability, and performance of operational assets.
- Work with maintenance and field teams to minimize downtime and service interruptions.
Scheduling & Resource Coordination
- Coordinate scheduling, dispatch, and resource allocation for field technicians and support staff.
- Ensure personnel and equipment are aligned with customer service requirements.
- Support efficient mobilization and deployment of field resources.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures.
- Promote a culture of workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, Canadian regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Support training and development initiatives related to safety awareness and operational best practices.
Customer Service & Documentation
- Oversee customer service operations related to field activities.
- Ensure work orders, field tickets, and service documentation are completed accurately and on time.
- Maintain high standards of service delivery across Canadian operations.
- Support effective communication between field teams, customers, and internal stakeholders.
Financial & Performance Management
- Support management of operational budgets, including maintenance, labour, and fleet-related expenditures.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to service efficiency, technician productivity, asset utilization, and cost management.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational performance and service delivery.
- Support cost-control initiatives while maintaining operational effectiveness.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with logistics, engineering, finance, sales, and commercial teams to support operational objectives.
- Align customer requirements with asset availability, mobilization activities, and ongoing service plans.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure consistent and reliable service delivery.
- Escalate strategic, budget, and capital allocation decisions to the Vice President, Operations.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and support Canadian operations personnel and associated administrative functions.
- Provide regular coaching and performance feedback to lead operators and field technicians.
- Foster accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence across the organization.
- Support employee development through technical and operational training initiatives.
Hands-On Operational Support
- Serve as a hands-on operational leader who actively supports field operations when required.
- Lead by example through direct involvement in operational problem-solving and field activities.
- Assist field teams in addressing operational challenges and maintaining customer service standards.
- Provide direct field service support as needed.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate the following:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in field operations.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
- Experience managing field service teams and safety programs.
- Experience in the oil & gas, power generation, or industrial equipment industries preferred.
Technical Skills
- Experience with asset tracking and fleet management systems.
- Understanding of preventative maintenance programs and field operations.
- Experience managing operational budgets and resource allocation.
- Familiarity with Canadian oil & gas regulatory requirements is considered an asset.

Work Environment
- Field and site-based role across Canadian locations, with office support as needed.
- Frequent travel throughout Alberta is required, including operational sites in and around Drayton Valley, Grande Prairie, Violet Grove, and other company locations.
- Preference may be given to candidates located in the Edmonton area due to proximity to operational sites and travel requirements.
- This is not primarily a desk-based role; regular interaction with field operations, personnel, and equipment is expected.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and snow.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, reach, and climb.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
