The Junior Cybersecurity Systems Administrator is responsible for the administration, security, configuration, maintenance, and sustainment of enterprise information systems supporting Department of Defense (DoD) environments. This position combines hands-on systems administration with cybersecurity responsibilities to ensure enterprise systems remain secure, available, properly configured, and compliant with applicable DoD cybersecurity requirements.

Responsibilities include system configuration and maintenance, cybersecurity hardening, patch management, vulnerability remediation, configuration management, identity and access management, system monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident response support.

The Cybersecurity Systems Administrator will work closely with cybersecurity engineers, network administrators, system administrators, Information System Security personnel, and government customers on Peterson SFB to maintain secure and reliable enterprise environments. The position requires practical experience supporting DoD information systems and the ability to implement cybersecurity requirements while maintaining system availability and mission effectiveness.

The candidate should be comfortable operating in mission-critical environments where cybersecurity, configuration control, system availability, and timely resolution of technical issues are essential to mission success.

Duties:

  • Administer, configure, maintain, and secure enterprise information systems supporting DoD mission environments.
  • Perform day-to-day system administration of Windows and other enterprise operating systems and services.

  • Review, analyze, track, and remediate system vulnerabilities and cybersecurity findings.
  • Implement and validate Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVAs), Information Assurance Vulnerability Bulletins (IAVBs), and other DoD-directed cybersecurity updates.
  • Support vulnerability scanning, analyze scan results, remediate identified findings, and validate corrective actions.
  • Maintain system configuration baselines and support formal configuration-management and change-control processes.
  • Administer user accounts, permissions, authentication mechanisms, and access controls in accordance with least-privilege and DoD security requirements.
  • Support Active Directory, Group Policy, enterprise identity services, and related authentication and authorization technologies.
  • Monitor system health, security status, logs, performance, capacity, and availability.
  • Investigate and resolve system, application, authentication, network connectivity, and cybersecurity issues.
  • Review system and security logs to identify anomalous activity, system failures, unauthorized changes, and potential cybersecurity incidents.
  • Support cybersecurity incident identification, investigation, containment, remediation, and recovery activities.
  • Support operation and maintenance of classified and unclassified DoD information systems.
  • Support secure movement and handling of information between authorized systems and security domains.
  • Implement and maintain security controls in support of Risk Management Framework (RMF) and system authorization requirements.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, configuration records, standard operating procedures, technical guides, and cybersecurity artifacts.
  • Support system upgrades, technology refreshes, application deployments, and integration of new hardware and software.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity, network, systems, and security personnel to resolve technical and compliance issues.
  • Support government customers during cybersecurity inspections, assessments, audits, and authorization activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior system administrators and support personnel as required.
