Overview
Reporting to the AVP of Premium Audit, the Regional Director of Premium Audit - East Region is responsible for leading premium audit operations across the Eastern United States, with specific oversight and expertise in New York and New Jersey regulatory environments. This role drives operational excellence, audit quality, regulatory compliance, talent development, and strategic execution within the region.
The Regional Director serves as a key liaison among underwriting, operations, claims, agents, insureds, regulatory bodies, and external audit partners. Success in this role requires exceptional communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills to influence outcomes, resolve complex audit issues, and ensure alignment with organizational objectives while delivering industry-leading service.
Responsibilities
Regional Leadership & Strategic Execution
· Partner with the AVP of Premium Audit to execute regional and departmental goals, strategies, and initiatives.
· Lead premium audit operations throughout the East Region, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and service standards.
· Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across teams and business partners.
· Serve as a strategic advisor and subject matter expert on premium audit issues impacting the Eastern region.
Operational Management
· Oversee daily premium audit operations to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant audit service delivery throughout the region.
· Monitor workload distribution and resource allocation based on geographic needs, business volumes, and service level expectations.
· Analyze operational trends and performance metrics to identify opportunities for efficiency and quality improvements.
· Collaborate closely with underwriting, billing, collections, and claims teams to resolve operational challenges and improve customer outcomes.
Regulatory Compliance & Audit Governance
· Ensure compliance with all applicable state regulations, insurance department requirements, and company filings throughout the East Region.
· Maintain advanced knowledge of New York and New Jersey workers' compensation and premium audit requirements, including:
o New York Compensation Insurance Rating Board (NYCIRB) rules and regulations.
o New Jersey Compensation Rating and Inspection Bureau (NJCRIB) rules and regulations.
o State-specific audit standards, classification requirements, and dispute resolution procedures.
· Provide regulatory guidance and support to staff, business partners, and vendors regarding premium audit practices.
· Monitor regulatory developments and implement procedural changes as needed.
Vendor Management & External Partnerships
· Direct relationships with external audit vendors and business partners serving the East Region.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
· Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance across all premium audit activities.
· Identify trends, root causes, and opportunities to enhance operational effectiveness and audit quality.
· Lead regional process improvement initiatives and support enterprise-wide transformation efforts.
Customer, Agent & Internal Stakeholder Relations
· Serve as the escalation point for complex audit concerns, disputes, and service-related issues involving policyholders, agents, brokers, and internal business partners.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with underwriting leadership, agency partners, insureds, and third-party vendors.
· Promote proactive communication and collaboration across departments to achieve effective business solutions.
· Represent Premium Audit in cross-functional meetings, strategic initiatives, and enterprise projects.
Talent Development & Team Leadership
· Lead, coach, mentor, and develop regional leadership and audit personnel.
· Establish clear performance expectations and accountability measures.
· Support succession planning, employee engagement, and professional development initiatives.
· Foster a highly collaborative environment focused on communication, knowledge sharing, and team success.
Market & Industry Awareness
· Remain informed regarding emerging premium audit trends, industry developments, bureau changes, and regulatory updates, particularly within New York and New Jersey.
· Utilize market intelligence to guide operational strategy and best practices.
Additional Duties
· Perform other duties and projects assigned by the AVP of Premium Audit.

Qualifications
Required
· Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
· Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in premium audit, workers' compensation insurance operations, or a related insurance discipline.
· Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing teams, leaders, vendors, or multi-state operations.
· Strong working knowledge of workers' compensation premium audit principles, classifications, and bureau regulations.
· Demonstrated expertise in New York and New Jersey premium audit regulations, including NYCIRB and NJCRIB rules.
· Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
· Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Strong collaboration, negotiation, and conflict-resolution abilities.
· Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
· CPCU, APA, ARM, AIM, AIC, or other relevant insurance designations.
· Advanced degree in Business, Insurance, Finance, or related field.
· Experience leading geographically dispersed teams and third-party vendor relationships.
· Knowledge of multi-state workers' compensation regulations throughout the Eastern United States.
· Experience with process improvement, operational excellence, and project management initiatives.

Those within a 50 mile radius of an AmTrust office will be expected to abide by a hybrid schedule.
The expected salary range for this role is $110,000 - 140,000.
