About the role:
As a Designer in our Slate studio, you are responsible for creating functional and visually appealing commercial furniture environments that align with client needs and manufacturer standards. This role involves space planning, furniture specifications, creating installation drawings, and collaborating closely with sales and project management teams to deliver design solutions that exceed client expectations.
This position is open in both our Denver and Fort Collins office locations.
What you’ll do:
- Collaborate with Senior Designers, clients, and project teams to understand design requirements and project objectives, while balancing creative ideas with client expectations.
- Support projects by creating aesthetically pleasing furniture and construction renderings that align with client needs and industry standards.
- Own and manage the technical side of design projects including measurements, specifications, and quotes, with a high level of organization, accuracy, and initiative.
- Develop creative and efficient space plans using CET Designer (Configura), AutoCAD, and manufacturer planning tools.
- Select and source materials, finishes, and furniture components that meet project budgets and design concepts.
- Present design concepts to clients and stakeholders, incorporating feedback and revisions as necessary.
- Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain samples, pricing, and specifications for design materials and furnishings.
- Work closely with the project team, including architects, engineers, and contractors, to ensure design feasibility and compliance with building codes and regulations.
- Assist in preparing project documentation, including design presentations, material boards, and design documentation for construction and installation purposes.
- Stay informed about industry trends, new materials, and design innovations to continuously enhance design offerings.
- Participate in regular in-person collaborative sessions and mentorship meetings to foster creative ideation and team growth.
Requirements
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience; relevant certifications are a plus.
- 2+ years of design experience, ideally within the contract furniture and construction industry.
- Proficient in design software and tools such as CET Designer (Configura), AutoCAD, and SketchUp, along with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong 3D modeling skills with the ability to produce detailed renderings for furniture and construction projects.
- In-depth knowledge of furniture and interior design principles, materials, and current industry trends.
- Skilled at interpreting client needs and translating project requirements into thoughtful, compelling design concepts.
- Creative and design-minded, with the ability to develop innovative, functional solutions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to clearly articulate design ideas to clients and internal teams.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and adaptable, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Curious and open to learning new design tools and technologies that support your work.

Work Environment:
While we support a flexible work environment, this role is based in Denver, CO or Fort Collins, CO and requires regular in-office presence. Ideal candidates will enjoy and thrive in a primarily in-person, collaborative team environment. In-office presence is required within the first 90 days of employment.
Regular local travel throughout Colorado is expected for client meetings and project support, along with occasional domestic travel for manufacturer events, customer meetings, and industry conferences.
Compensation:
$57,800 - $71,000 per year
