IMMEDIATE OPENINGS

The Village of Glenwood is now accepting applications for lateral hires for the position of Full-Time Police Officer for immediate and future openings.


Starting Salary Range: $81,331.14 - $99,457.87 


Maximum Salary Range: $104,430.76 

(after 2.5 - 3.5 years of service) 



The Glenwood Police Department is committed to creating and maintaining a professional and community-oriented police department.  The department is equipped and trained to handle various types of emergency situations. In addition, officers are involved in a variety of in-house specialties, regional task forces, and specialized units such as:

  • South Suburban Emergency Response Team (SWAT)
  • South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force
  • Mobile Field Force
  • Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team
  • Regional and in-house Tactical Unit participation available to all motivated officers
  • Full-Time Investigation Division
  • Bike Patrol
  • Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program, grant funds for overtime details.
  • Firearms instructors
  • Evidence Technicians
  • Defensive Tactics Instructors  

COMPENSATION: 

  • Officers ascend steps annually
  • Weapons Proficiency Pay $200-$400 annually
  • Initial Uniforms and Equipment provided
  • Annual Uniform Allowance of $1,500.00

PAID TIME OFF:

  • 11 paid holidays
  • 2 annual personal days
  • Annual Vacation Time Off: 80 hours after 1 year, 120 hours after 5 years, 160 hours after 10 years, 200 hours after twenty years.
  • Up to 3 weeks vacation (120 hours) for lateral officers with more than 5 years of experience
  • Annual Sick Leave Buy Back Option up to 100 hours with minimum sick leave balance required 200 hours 
  • Ability to accrue compensatory time off
  • Sick time (8 hours accrued per month)
  • Union members choose schedule; four (8) hour days on/two days off OR 12-hour shifts

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or an individual who has permanent resident status and is legally authorized to work in the United States. 
  • Must under federal law, be authorized to obtain, carry, purchase, or otherwise possess a firearm.
  • Must have at least two (2) years of full-time law enforcement experience
  • Must be in good standing with ILETSB and your current/ former departments.
  • Must have been awarded a certificate attesting to the successful completion of the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course as provided in the Illinois Police Training Act. Evidence of such will be subject to final approval and waiver by ILETSB 

      o OR an individual with equivalent qualifications from another agency/state who is able to obtain a waiver from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board to serve as a full-time police officer, and who is presently or previously been employed as a full-time certified police officer and has at least two (2) years of full-time experience. 

    o Out of State Officers will need to take the two week online “Law for Police” course, four (4) hour “Mandatory Firearms Training” course and range qualifications and pass the IL State equivalency exam.

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
  • Not have been convicted of a felony, a crime of moral turpitude or any misdemeanor specifically listed in Section 10-2.1-6 of the Act, 65 ILCS 5/10-2.16 as amended.  
  • Vision: Correctable to 20/20 in both eyes.
  • Pass a psychological, polygraph, and medical examination.

3. After receiving the packet an in-person interview will be scheduled with the applicant, and the subsequent hiring process will be initiated as applicable.

  • Driver’s License 
  • High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement/ College Diploma if listed on the Application.
  • DD-214 form (if applicable)
  • Birth Certificate and/or Certificate of Citizenship.
  • Permanent Resident Card (if applicable)
  • Applicable Training Certificates
  • Proof of passing ILETSB-approved Police academy
