Job Description:

Position Summary: The Onsite Mentor Program supports first-year law students as they transition into law school. Mentors help students develop effective study habits, time management skills, exam preparation, and connect mentees to resources that promote success. Mentors will report to the Dean of Student Success and Bar Preparation.

 

Principal Duties:

 

  • Support mentees in identifying and implementing effective:
    • Case reading and briefing strategies
    • Course outlining strategies
    • Exam preparation strategies
    • Priority management strategies
    • Study plans and strategies
  • Provide a positive source of support to first-year law students.
  • Guide mentees in identifying and using appropriate resources.
  • Commit to meeting with the mentee on a regular basis.
  • Attend mentor team meetings.
  • Attend departmental first-year programming.
  • Maintain a solutions-oriented approach to challenges and problem-solving.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  • Ability to interface professionally with administration, faculty, and students; works collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to develop rapport, trust, and confidence with mentees and provide support in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Significant interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to efficiently and thoroughly complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Desire to help students succeed
  • Must be enrolled at Colleges of Law and in good academic standing
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3 or above
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

This opportunity is budgeted at $$20/hr base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
