Description
SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to provide instruction for students in information and technology literacy. Assist students and staff in selecting appropriate resources and to oversee the selection, organization, utilization and maintenance of library services.
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Skillfully navigates the online library circulation system (Follett Destiny).
Maintains and executes a budget for purchasing library materials for the library as well as supplies.
Responsible for preparing orders, check-in new orders; and process cataloged materials.
Maintains library collection, including circulation, shelving, weeding the collection as necessary and conducts a yearly inventory.
Presents instructional lessons to classes; guides students with online resources and promotes appropriate conduct of students using the library-media center.
Attends to pre-scheduled class visits for instruction in the use of library online public access catalog (Follett Destiny), library skills, story-telling, and the circulation of books.
Assists students and teachers in locating needed materials and information; suggests useful materials for curriculum units; prepares and distributes resource lists of new materials.
Maintains an account of patrons that are serviced by the library and prepares statistical reports that reflect both library usage and circulation.
Creates displays to stimulate reading and the use of the library.
Establishes and maintains a congenial and cooperative working relationship with all staff and students.
Maintains a well organized, manageable and attractive library.
Maintains accurate records on the use and condition of audiovisual and other materials in accordance with established procedures.
Participates in in-service programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to file, keyboard and understand the library organizational system. Ability to work with library applications software, Microsoft Window operating system and computer application programs (Microsoft Office). Ability to
work with various types of audiovisual equipment and office equipment. Ability to maintain a positive working relationship with middle and secondary students.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of 48 semester hours of academic credit that includes 15 semester hours in language arts, reading, writing, mathematics or professional education (earned from a nationally or regionally accredited college/university) or Passage of Educational Assistant Assessment (ParaPro, ParaEducator, and Basic Skills).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
New Mexico Public Education Educational Assistant License required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
