The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.
About the role
As an AOD Practitioner, you will have the opportunity to deliver evidence‑based counselling, care coordination and recovery‑focused interventions for individuals and families experiencing AOD‑related harms. You will work as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team within the Northern Victoria Alcohol and Other Drug Services (NVAODS), supporting people across the Loddon Mallee region to access high‑quality, person‑centred treatment.
Reporting to the Non‑Residential AOD Team Leader, this is a Fixed Term Full-Time position, contracted for 12 months, based onsite in Bendigo, Victoria (Loddon Mallee Region).
Conditions
Compensation is in accordance with the SCHADS Award – Level 5.
How you will make an impact
- Deliver evidence‑based counselling and recovery interventions tailored to client complexity and needs
- Provide case management aligned with TSA models and standards of practice
- Develop collaborative treatment plans that support client goals, wellbeing and recovery
- Assist participants to access community supports, advocacy pathways and post‑treatment networks
- Conduct ongoing assessment from intake to exit, ensuring responsive and flexible service delivery
- Contribute positively to team collaboration, intake processes and program delivery
What you will bring
- A tertiary qualification in Social Work or a related discipline, or minimum Diploma of Community Services
- Demonstrated experience in social services, AOD practice or client‑centred support work
- AOD Skillset (or willingness to obtain within 12 months)
- Completion of Forensic Fundamentals (or willingness to obtain within 3 months)
- Family Violence foundational and information‑sharing training (or willingness to obtain within 12 months)
- Strong communication, collaboration and case management capabilities
- A Victorian Driver’s Licence
- A current Employee Working with Children Check
