We're looking for a strategic and highly influential Head of COO Office to serve as the COO's trusted advisor and lead the COO Office. Acting as an extension of the COO, you'll drive strategy execution, business performance, governance, financial management and organisational effectiveness across the COO function while leading a multidisciplinary team and partnering with executive stakeholders across the enterprise.
As the primary point of coordination for the COO function, you'll work closely with executive stakeholders, global partners and business leaders to drive alignment, execution and performance across a broad and diverse portfolio, ensuring the COO organisation continues to deliver strong outcomes for our customers, people and business.
This is a permanent role based in Sydney.
What you’ll do
- Own the COO business management framework, including strategy execution, performance management, financial outcomes, workforce planning and governance oversight.
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing COO Office team, establishing clear accountability, capability development and succession planning.
- Oversee financial, workforce and business management activities, ensuring effective planning, forecasting and delivery against objectives.
- Manage budget plans for COO, involving BAU and delivery.
- Lead the review of existing operations and the implementation of innovation processes across the department or sub-function to ensure the required continuous improvement outcomes are delivered.
- Write and edit material for various target populations, tailoring the tone and content to match the needs and expectations of each audience
- Provide authoritative specialist advice to senior managers at the COO and IBAL to enable the implementation of policy, projects, and change initiatives.
- Act as a delegate for the COO in executive forums, committees and stakeholder engagements when required, representing the function with credibility and influence.
- Develop and/or deliver a plan for significant aspects of internal communications with guidance from the COO.
- Monitor and review performance and behaviors within area of responsibility to identify and resolve noncompliance with the organization's policies and relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct. Drive a strong risk and control culture across the COO function.
- Partner with the COO on organisational effectiveness, workforce strategy and operating model design to ensure the function remains fit for purpose and aligned to business priorities.
- Manage identification of risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints associated a project assigned by the COO, escalating these matters. Where necessary, develop, agree on, and implement solutions to overcome these concerns.
- Lead the development, coordination and execution of the COO strategic agenda, ensuring priorities are translated into measurable outcomes and progress is actively monitored and reported.
What we’re looking for
- Experience operating in a senior leadership, Chief of Staff, Business Management or COO Office role within a large, complex and highly regulated organisation.
- A proven track record of translating strategy into action, driving organisational performance and delivering outcomes across multiple business functions.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and partner effectively with Executive teams, Boards, regulators and global stakeholders.
- Strong leadership experience, including building high-performing teams, developing talent and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Commercially astute with deep experience in governance, financial management, risk oversight and operating in complex regulatory environments.
- Outstanding communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to distil complex information into clear, actionable insights for executive and board-level audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, synthesise complex information and make sound judgments in a fast-paced executive environment.
