SUMMARY: The Ambulance Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing and ensuring the efficient operation of the ambulance department. This position requires comprehensive knowledge of Nebraska state statutes, rules, regulations, and protocols related to emergency medical services (EMS). The Ambulance Supervisor must be available 24/7 to address both emergent and non-emergent department and patient concerns.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Must be knowledge of all current Nebraska state statues, rules, regulations, and protocols.
  • Must be available 24/7 for all matters emergent or non-emergent regarding the department/patient concerns.
  • Maintains schedule of all employees and updates as necessary.
  • Responsible for creating, maintaining, and submitting quarterly reports.
  • Ensures employees keep accurate patient transport/care log and completes eNARSIS and EHR reports.
  • Attends all supervisory meetings as required.
  • Able to network with other directors/departments to ensure smooth workflow and continuity of case management.
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment/supplies or designating the appropriate personnel.
  • Provides guidance and/or disciplinary action as needed.
  • Able to handle all complaints from patients, patient's family members, and/or the community regarding ambulance calls.
  • Hires appropriate licensed/certified personnel to maintain adequate emergency services coverage to all persons in need of medical attention.
  • Willing to attend leadership training.
  • Maintain personnel records.
  • Must be able to make rational, split decisions based on limited information.
  • Submits and approves employee time sheets and leave requests.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Emergency Medical Technician Duties:

    • Must be knowledgeable in patient assessments, treatments, and procedures pertaining, to EMS in accordance with Nebraska state regulations and protocols.
    • Must maintain a Nebraska state EMT license and current CPR (AHA) certification biannually.
    • Attends all mandatory training pertaining to the upkeep of EMT certification to include the minimum amount of CEU's as required by the state.
    • Must maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital matters.
    • Must be able to report patient conditions to receiving hospitals via radio or cell phone, and observe proper radio etiquette.
    • Uses proper channels of communication/chain of command.
    • Maintains a good time and attendance records and participates in staff meetings and trainings.
    • Duties require sound decisions making and problem solving skills based on data collected from patient assessments.
    • Duties demand contact with patients, medical staff at receiving facilities, members of the Tribe, general public, IHS facilities, providers, and officials of county, state, and federal agencies.
    • Must learn the main geographical area of operations and surrounding areas including all housing projects, rural homes, receiving hospitals, businesses, roadways, etc.
    • Maintains a positive attitude toward position and co-workers.
    • Maintains cleanliness of the ambulance, all EMS equipment, and office/garage spaces.
    • Maintains accurate patient care/transport logs and completes eNARSIS and EHR reports within the required 72 hour time period.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Must have at least 5 years' experience as an EMT

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must have a valid Nebraska Driver's license and be insurable.
  • Must possess current State Of Nebraska EMT licensure
  • CPR certified (American Heart Association)

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Employee must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during work hours.
  • Works beyond normal working hours to include holidays, weekends, evenings, etc., and may be asked or required to work beyond 12 hour shifts.
  • Is subject to personnel injury, exposure to infectious waste, diseases, viruses, and hazardous conditions.
  • Is subject to harsh weather conditions and extreme changes from hot to cold and vice versa.
  • Must be able to see, hear, and lift heavy patients and equipment to assure the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrates emotional stability.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and/or ABILITIES:

  • Needs to have flexible working schedules and is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with patients, family members of patients, and bystanders under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with patients, family members of patient, and the general public.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and have flexibility to changing situations.
