UW Medicine Primary Care and Population Health has a unique opportunity for a Registered Dietitian to join our Nutrition and Diabetes Education Team!

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Part-time, 80% FTE (32 hours per week)
  • Day Shift

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

 Led by the Assistant Director of Nutrition and Diabetes Education, our team of Registered Dietitians is dedicated to advancing UW Medicine's mission of improving the health of the public. We strive to provide high-quality patient-centered care and support the continued learning of our team members.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Position will support multiple (3) UW Medicine Primary Care clinics in central and north Seattle
  • Serves as the primary nutrition expert at assigned clinics while managing a schedule of patients from provider-generated referrals
  • Works with patients of all ages providing in-depth knowledge and evidence-based Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) for a wide range of health-related conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, weight management goals, renal disease, etc

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assesses patient’s current dietary patterns and partners with the patient to develop an individualized nutrition plan that supports their health goals.
  • Uses the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) to provide and document MNT and stays current with national standards for diabetes education.
  • Provides effective nutrition and diabetes education in both individual and, when applicable, group settings through a variety of visit formats including in-person, telemedicine, and phone.
  • Uses educational and behavioral techniques appropriate for each patient, taking into consideration their learning abilities, readiness to change, and cultural beliefs.
  • Collaborates with a comprehensive care team that includes providers, RN Care Managers, Social Workers, Panel Navigators, and other clinical staff, to facilitate patient access, education, and continuity of care.
  • Ensures that the highest quality customer service and clinical care are practiced resulting in patient satisfaction.
  • Seeks out continuing education opportunities and uses evidence-based resources to support patient care.
  • Assists with training new staff including providers, residents, and other clinical staff on topics related to services offered, nutrition topics, and diabetes management.
  • Maintains knowledge of payer requirements, billing practices, and reimbursement processes related to MNT and diabetes education services.
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills as an individual counselor, group educator, and care team member.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree involving major study in food and nutrition or dietetics
  • Registration as a Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • At least one year of related experience in a clinic/ambulatory setting to include at least six months of experience providing diabetes education and counseling

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

$40.88 hourly
