THE POSITION

Keyera is currently seeking an Instrumentation & Electrical Technician (I&E Technician) for our Sarnia Fractionation Plant.

Reporting to the Instrumentation & Electrical Team Lead, this role is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and calibrating electrical and instrumentation equipment to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the facility. The position works a 4-day, 10-hour schedule and may require standby, call-out, overtime, and participation in shutdown and turnaround activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, test, and calibrate electrical and instrumentation equipment supporting NGL fractionation, storage, loading, shipping, utilities, and related plant operations.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot field instrumentation, analyzers, control valves, sensors, transmitters, motors, motor control systems, DCS components, PLCs, and related electrical and control equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment faults using drawings, schematics, loop sheets, technical manuals, precision measuring instruments, test equipment, and computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities to support equipment reliability, operational availability, product quality, and safe plant performance.
  • Support commissioning, shutdowns, turnarounds, and project-related activities, including equipment installation, loop checks, functional testing, and start-up support.
  • Work collaboratively with Operations and Maintenance teams to identify equipment issues, recommend corrective actions, participate in failure investigations and root cause analyses, and support continuous improvement and plant reliability initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance, calibration, inspection, and repair records within the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Follow all applicable company policies, safe work practices, regulatory requirements, permit processes, and Sarnia Fractionation Plant procedures.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to personal safety, process safety, environmental stewardship, and operational reliability, including the timely reporting of hazards, incidents, and equipment deficiencies.
  • Provide technical support, mentorship, and guidance to apprentices or less experienced team members as required.
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, work areas, and documentation in accordance with site standards and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1–3 years of relevant instrumentation and/or electrical experience in an industrial environment. Relevant apprenticeship, internship, or other hands-on industrial experience will be considered.
  • Electrical or Instrumentation Red Seal certification is considered an asset.
  • Valid G Driver’s license.
  • Experience maintaining, installing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and/or instrumentation systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution, instrumentation, analyzers, control systems, DCS, PLCs, and related equipment within an industrial processing environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills within a continuous industrial processing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, loop diagrams, schematics, technical manuals, control narratives, and maintenance procedures.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems, such as Maximo, is considered an asset.
  • Strong commitment to personal safety, process safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Reliability teams.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to urgent maintenance issues in a safety-sensitive industrial environment.

Salary: $39.00-$60.00/hour depending on qualifications.
