POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the procurement of a wide variety of materials, supplies, equipment, and services for Eastern Shipbuilding Group Inc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described.
- Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Analyze price proposals and other data and information to determine reasonable price quotes.
- Acts as a liaison between vendors/suppliers and involved departments to resolve procurement related problems.
- Maintain accurate records of vendor/supplier performances.
- Issue requests for quotes/proposals and select the best source consistent with cost, quality, and delivery in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Ensure that the materials, supplies, and equipment, etc. purchased on behalf of the shipyard meet specified conditions and acceptable standards.
- Respond consistently with a high degree of initiative to resolve issues or complex problems that may arise.
- Consult with vendors/suppliers concerning over-shipments, delivery shortages, changes in quantity, and delivery dates, etc. Communicate with the Purchasing Manager and Director.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly and/or indirectly supervise employees assigned to the Purchasing Dept. Reports issues or concerns to the Purchasing Director and Purchasing Manager. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out- of-area and overnight travel may be required.
REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent plus three to five years’ experience as a Buyer. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills: Intermediate level Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Express. Ability to read and interpret documents such as general business periodicals, professional documents, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, vendors, and management. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, and smartphones.
