Description

At Suncor, we produce and provide energy.

When you join Suncor, you become part of a company that has built a solid foundation for both business and employee success. We are a place where talented people thrive. As part of our team, you play a vital role in delivering energy we all rely on, and you'll make a meaningful impact in the communities where we live and work.

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to support the safe and efficient execution of large capital projects within one of our execution portfolios (Fixed Plant Projects or In Situ Projects).

The Project Manager is accountable for the planning, execution, and delivery of large capital projects within Suncor’s Projects Business Unit. This role leads cross‑functional project teams to safely deliver projects on scope, on schedule, and within approved cost, in alignment with Suncor’s Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) and stage‑gate project delivery requirements. The Project Manager manages all aspects of project execution from definition through construction, commissioning, and handover to Operations, while coordinating contractors, internal stakeholders, and governance forums to ensure disciplined capital stewardship and predictable outcomes.

What we offer:

We recognize your contribution and offer a range of rewards and development opportunities designed to support your success. Benefits/perks listed below may vary depending on the nature of your employment with Suncor and the region where you work.

  • Strong compensation: we offer competitive compensation, regional-based uplifts, annual bonuses, and long-term financial rewards. We also help you save for your future by offering pension programs, and savings plans with company matching
  • Benefits: utilize an employee assistance program and comprehensive company-paid health, dental, and vision benefits for you and your family to support your mental, physical, and financial well-being
  • Generous time-off: enjoy generous paid vacation time and personal time-off to recharge and maintain a healthy work-life balance
  • Talent development programs: Internal mobility, succession planning, and employee training and development programs are just a few ways we’re dedicated to your development
  • Relocation assistance: We provide support with lease cancellation or home sale, temporary accommodations, rental home search, moving and storage costs, spousal assistance and more

Minimum Requirements:

  • Engineering degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Chemical or a related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or eligible with APEGA
  • 15+ years of experience supporting capital or sustaining projects
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-discipline projects through full lifecycle delivery (FEL to execution)
  • Strong understanding of stage-gate project development, risk management and multidiscipline coordination
  • Strong understanding of project controls, contracting strategies, and procurement
  • Demonstrated ability to work within structured governance and quality systems
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and influence stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the safe delivery of capital projects from development through start-up and handover
  • Establish project execution strategies and drive alignment on scope, schedule, cost, risk, and operational objectives
  • Ensure stage-gate requirements, governance expectations, and regulatory obligations are achieved
  • Provide leadership and oversight across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and turnover activities
  • Drive project performance through proactive management of risks, opportunities, changes, and stakeholder interfaces
  • Maintain accountability for project cost, schedule, forecasting, reporting, and funding requirements
  • Lead EPC/EPCM and construction contractor relationships to achieve project objectives
  • Influence key business, technical, and execution decisions through effective stakeholder engagement
  • Present project performance, recommendations, and risks to leadership and governance forums
  • Ensure operational readiness and successful transition of completed facilities to Operations
  • Foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and execution excellence across project teams

Location and Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W. or work out of our Base Plant location in Fort McMurray
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • Occasional travel to EP stakeholder offices, project sites, vendor shops, or fabrication facilities as required by the specific project or portfolio
  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will be based on years of experience and scope of work
