Head of Legal and Compliance (iGaming)

On behalf of our client, a new online betting and iGaming operator entering the Brazilian market, we are seeking an experienced Head of Legal and Compliance. The ideal candidate should have experience in the iGaming industry (online casino or sports betting), along with a strong background in corporate law, regulatory compliance, and risk management. This role requires a strategic thinker who can navigate Brazil’s evolving legal landscape while ensuring full compliance with national and international regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Legal & Regulatory Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations governing the online casino, betting, and iGaming industry in Brazil.
• Stay up-to-date with legislative changes and regulatory developments affecting the business.
• Act as the primary point of contact with regulatory authorities, government agencies, and external legal advisors.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures, and internal controls to mitigate legal and compliance risks.
• Manage licensing and regulatory approvals required for the company’s operations.

Risk Management & Governance:

• Identify and assess legal and compliance risks, proposing solutions to mitigate exposure.
• Ensure corporate governance best practices are adhered to across all business units.
• Oversee internal compliance audits and risk assessments.

Contracts & Commercial Agreements:

• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including partnerships, supplier agreements, and service contracts.
• Provide legal support on corporate transactions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships.

Dispute Resolution & Litigation Management:

• Handle disputes, litigation, and regulatory investigations, working closely with external counsel when necessary.
• Develop strategies for managing legal claims and protecting the company’s interests.

Team Leadership & Training:

• Lead and develop a legal and compliance team, ensuring alignment with business goals.
• Provide training and guidance to employees on compliance matters, including anti-money laundering (AML), responsible gaming, and data protection.

Key Requirements:

• Qualified lawyer (LL.B. or equivalent) with strong knowledge of Brazilian corporate and regulatory law.
• 8+ years of legal experience, preferably with exposure to the online casino, betting, iGaming or gaming industry.
• Strong understanding of Brazilian iGaming regulations, compliance frameworks, and risk management practices.
• Experience in dealing with government authorities and regulatory agencies.
• Fluent in English and Portuguese
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving regulatory environment.
• Strong negotiation, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with AML, KYC, and responsible gaming regulations.
• Knowledge of data protection laws (LGPD, GDPR, etc.).
• International legal experience, particularly in the gaming sector.
