Job Description:
The Adjunct Respiratory Care Clinical Faculty member provides part-time clinical instruction and supervision to students enrolled in the Respiratory Care Program. The position guides, facilitates, monitors, and evaluates students as they work toward achievement of course and clinical objectives in affiliated healthcare facilities. The faculty member promotes safe, ethical, evidence-based, and patient-centered respiratory care; provides timely feedback; documents student performance; and communicates regularly with the Director of Clinical Education and Program Director. Clinical assignments, work hours, and locations may vary according to program and clinical-site needs.
Job Responsibilities
60% Provide direct clinical instruction, supervision, and guidance to assigned respiratory care students. Ensure that students perform respiratory care procedures safely, competently, and within their level of education, program policies, clinical-site policies, and applicable laws and professional standards.
15% Observe and evaluate student performance in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains. Complete clinical evaluations, competency documentation, attendance records, and other required records accurately and within established deadlines, including documentation in Trajecsys.
10% Provide timely, constructive feedback and coaching to students. Identify performance concerns, safety issues, or remediation needs and promptly communicate them to the Director of Clinical Education and Program Director.
5% Serve as a professional role model and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, preceptors, patients, families, and clinical-site personnel. Protect patient and student confidentiality and model ethical, respectful, and culturally responsive behavior.
5% Participate in required orientation, faculty development, program meetings, and clinical-site training. Maintain current knowledge and skills in respiratory care practice, clinical education, safety, accreditation expectations, and program policies.
5% Perform other job-related duties as assigned in support of the Respiratory Care Program and its clinical education activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in respiratory care from an Accredited College or University
No substitution for required professional credential or state license. Relevant clinical teaching or preceptor experience may be considered when evaluating overall experience
Minimum of three years of current respiratory care clinical practice experience.
Demonstrated clinical competence as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Experience serving as a clinical instructor, educator, or preceptor is strongly desired.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in respiratory care, allied health, education, or a related field.
Three or more years of respiratory care practice, including experience with clinical instruction or precepting.
Experience teaching or precepting students in an accredited Respiratory Care program; experience with clinical evaluation, competency assessment, and electronic clinical documentation systems.
Certifications and/or Licenses
Registered Respiratory Therapist-Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the NBRC.
Louisiana Respiratory Care License-Current, unrestricted license to practice respiratory care in Louisiana.
Life Support Certifications-Current BLS required. ACLS required by the program deadline; PALS and NRP preferred when applicable.
