The Digital Pathology Department provides continuity of care for patients of OSUWMC as it relates to surgical pathology cases that are performed at OSUWMC. As well as cases that originate at outside institutions and are now being referred for secondary review at OSUWMC. These services support clinical care, clinical trials, and research activities of OSUWMC physicians as relates to surgical pathology specimens and Digital Pathology Services. The Digital Pathology Program utilizes high-throughput automated scanners to capture whole slide images that are viewed digitally through enterprise imaging software. These digital images are interpreted by pathologists and support patient care, clinical trials, research activities, telepathology, and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled workflows.
The Senior Systems Consultant – S4 provides strategic and technical leadership for enterprise digital pathology and artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives. This position is responsible for evaluating, implementing, validating, and optimizing digital pathology technologies and AI-enabled solutions that support patient care, research, telepathology, and outreach services. Working collaboratively with pathology, information technology, researchers, and industry partners, the incumbent leads technology integration, enterprise system enhancements, software and hardware validation, workflow optimization, and regulatory compliance. The role serves as the primary technical expert for digital pathology infrastructure, AI applications, and emerging technologies while ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with institutional goals.
Position Summary
The Senior Systems Consultant – S4 serves as the enterprise subject matter expert for digital pathology systems, computational pathology, and artificial intelligence technologies. This position leads the evaluation, deployment, governance, and lifecycle management of AI-enabled pathology solutions while coordinating enterprise digital pathology infrastructure, software integrations, and image management platforms. The incumbent partners with clinical, research, operational, and IT leaders to implement innovative technologies that improve diagnostic workflows, operational efficiency, and research capabilities. Responsibilities include leading AI and digital pathology validation activities, supporting CAP and CLIA compliance, developing governance and quality metrics, managing vendor relationships, and providing strategic guidance for future technology investments. Through technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration, this role advances the organization's digital pathology strategy and positions the institution as a leader in computational pathology and AI-enabled diagnostics.
