Join the City of Hampton’s Department of Public Works as a Sr. Civil Engineer and help shape the infrastructure that keeps our community moving. This position oversees planning, design, and construction activities with a strong focus on infrastructure management. Working independently with limited supervision, the role reports progress through periodic meetings and contributes directly to the success of essential public works projects.

- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
- Three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in civil engineering.
- Some experience on VDOT funded projects preferred.
- Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification or equivalent
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Virginia preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- Requires frequent travel throughout the city.
- Extensive contact with city departments and related outside agencies.
- Requires some duties to be performed after normal working hours and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- The incumbent will be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules
