Software Engineer, Payments and Revenue
Location: Toronto GTA (on-site) ·
Type: Full-time ·
Openings: 1 ·
Salary: CA$150K – $180K + equity
The role
Our client moves money globally across currencies, entities, payment providers and banking rails. You'll build and own the payments and revenue infrastructure behind it: global payouts, payment orchestration, provider integrations, reconciliation, invoicing, revenue recognition and internal finance tooling. You'll partner with finance and operations to replace manual workflows with reliable, auditable systems.
What you'll do
- Build backend systems that schedule, validate, route, send and track global payments and payouts
- Integrate with payment platforms, banks, payroll providers and financial systems, handling webhooks, rate limits, retries, settlement and failure modes
- Automate reconciliation across payouts, invoices, bank transactions and accounting systems so every money movement is traceable
- Build invoicing, billing, collections and revenue-recognition workflows, including deferred and unbilled revenue and accruals
- Design for idempotency, transaction integrity, observability, audit trails and safe recovery from failed transactions
- Turn spreadsheet-heavy finance workflows into scalable internal tools
What you bring
- 3–5 years of backend development focused on payment systems, distributed systems or cloud infrastructure
- Strong CS fundamentals; a degree in Computer Science, Software or Computer Engineering, or similar is strongly preferred
- Production backend and high-concurrency systems where correctness and data integrity are critical
- Proficiency in at least one backend language (C++, Java, Go, Python or Shell)
- Experience with payments, billing, fintech, marketplaces, banking infrastructure or other high-volume transactional systems
- Solid grasp of APIs, databases, concurrency, idempotency, retries, transaction boundaries, event-driven systems and reconciliation
- Ownership of critical production systems, including monitoring, incident response and root-cause fixes
Nice to have
- Payments or transaction infrastructure experience at a leading fintech or high-volume consumer marketplace
- Built wallets, ledgers, payout systems, billing infrastructure or reconciliation engines
- Cross-border payments, FX and multi-currency settlement across entities and jurisdictions
- Accounting fluency: double-entry, revenue recognition, AP/AR, clearing accounts and settlement
