Description
Established in 1969, Cigarette Racing has innovative vision and legendary style. Cigarette boats are uniquely hand-crafted in the United States and known globally for power, comfort, and luxury. Our high-level execution and premium quality are second to none and we stay committed to building the finest powerboats and center consoles in the world.
The CAD Modeler / CNC Programming Specialist supports Cigarette Racing's Engineering and Production operations by creating accurate 2D drawings, 3D CAD models, and production-ready cut or machine files used in the manufacturing of high-performance boats and related components.
This position works closely with Engineering, Production, and machine operators to translate approved designs, measurements, concepts, and existing components into accurate digital models and files that can be used by applicable CNC and automated manufacturing equipment. The role will also support the design and development of smaller parts, fixtures, templates, and production components that can be completed internally without requiring third-party engineering support.
The ideal candidate combines strong CAD modeling capabilities with an understanding of CNC/manufacturing processes, dimensional accuracy, material utilization, and design for manufacturability. This position will help improve internal engineering support, reduce outside dependency for smaller design projects, and ensure production teams receive accurate and usable manufacturing files.
CAD Modeling & Design
• Create and modify accurate 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for marine components, production parts, fixtures, templates, tooling, and other manufacturing needs.
• Develop models and drawings from engineering information, sketches, measurements, existing components, and approved design concepts.
• Support the design and development of smaller components and production solutions that can be engineered internally.
• Modify existing models and drawings based on production feedback, fitment issues, engineering changes, or design revisions.
• Ensure drawings and models include appropriate dimensions, tolerances, geometry, and manufacturing information.
• Maintain organized CAD files, revisions, drawings, and related technical documentation.
CNC & Manufacturing File Development
• Convert approved CAD designs into production-ready cut, toolpath, or machine files for applicable CNC and automated manufacturing equipment.
• Develop and verify toolpaths, nesting, cutting geometry, machining parameters, and related programming as applicable to the equipment and manufacturing process.
• Review machine files before release to help prevent dimensional errors, material waste, collisions, or production rework.
• Optimize part layouts and nesting to improve material utilization and manufacturing efficiency.
• Maintain proper file naming, revision control, and release processes so Production is working from current approved files.
• Work directly with machine operators to troubleshoot file, geometry, toolpath, fitment, or machining concerns.
• Support programming and file development for applicable equipment, which may include CNC routers, CNC mills, automated glass-cutting equipment, and other computer-controlled manufacturing machinery.
• Assist with test cuts, first-piece verification, and adjustments when new or revised components are introduced.
Engineering & Production Support
• Work closely with Engineering and Production to determine manufacturing requirements and translate those requirements into practical CAD/CNC solutions.
• Take field measurements and verify existing components when required to develop or modify models.
• Review designs for manufacturability and identify potential issues before files are released to Production.
• Support prototype development, production fixtures, jigs, templates, replacement parts, and process-improvement projects.
• Assist in resolving dimensional, fitment, alignment, or fabrication issues identified during production.
• Incorporate approved production changes into drawings, models, and machine files to maintain accurate documentation.
• Coordinate with Quality Control as needed to verify dimensional or manufacturing requirements.
• Recommend opportunities to improve machining processes, material utilization, repeatability, and production efficiency.
Safety & Compliance
• Follow company safety procedures and applicable OSHA requirements while working in Engineering and production environments.
• Follow established machine-safety procedures when supporting or working around CNC and automated equipment.
• Maintain organized digital files and physical work areas.
• Immediately communicate programming, equipment, tooling, or design concerns that could create a safety, quality, or production issue.
This list is not exhaustive, and responsibilities may be subject to adjustment based on the evolving needs of the business.
Requirements
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in CAD, Drafting, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Industrial Design, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.
• Minimum 2–3 years of experience in CAD modeling, CNC programming, manufacturing design, or a related technical role preferred.
• Strong proficiency with professional 2D and 3D CAD software.
• Experience creating production-ready CNC, cut, or machine files from CAD models or drawings.
• Working knowledge of CNC machining, routing, cutting, toolpaths, nesting, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with CAM software and CNC programming strongly preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and technical specifications.
• Understanding of design for manufacturability (DFM) and the relationship between CAD design and actual production processes.
• Ability to take accurate measurements and translate physical components or concepts into digital models.
• Experience designing fixtures, jigs, templates, tooling, or small manufactured components preferred.
• Marine, automotive, aerospace, composites, or custom manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting CNC routers, CNC mills, automated cutting equipment, or similar manufacturing machinery preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to dimensional accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, revisions, and production priorities.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with engineers, supervisors, technicians, and machine operators.
