The Fund/Philanthropy Development Manager leads Family Bridges’ funding appeals and grant processes. The Manager researches prospective funders and donors, leads responses to public and private requests for proposals, and oversees grant reporting and compliance. Reporting to the CFO, the Manager works closely with the COO, Finance team, and program leaders. The role independently assesses funding eligibility, alignment with organizational priorities, and potential risks; develops approaches to manage those risks; and makes recommendations to the CFO.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the identification and development of public and private funding opportunities that support Family Bridges’ programs and strategic goals.
- Independently evaluate funding opportunities, including eligibility, organizational fit, application requirements, deadlines, financial implications, and risks. Recommend to the CFO which opportunities to pursue and how to address identified risks.
- Lead responses to requests for proposals, including proposal narratives, budgets, and supporting documents, in collaboration with Finance and program leaders.
- Build relationships with corporations, foundations, and other prospective funders. Identify partnership opportunities such as employee engagement, annual giving, and joint events.
- Manage grant servicing from award through closeout, coordinating required reports, renewals, amendments, funder communications, and other deliverables with the responsible departments.
- Partner with Finance to monitor grant budgets, expenditures, revenue, receivables, reimbursement requirements, and variances. Identify concerns and recommend corrective action to the CFO.
- Maintain accurate grant records and tracking tools, and coordinate documentation for funder monitoring, audits, and government reviews.
- Protect confidential financial, employee, participant, and organizational information.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- At least three years of experience in grant writing, grant administration, nonprofit development, contract management, nonprofit finance, or a related field, with responsibility for managing multiple funding projects or submissions.
- Demonstrated ability to identify funding opportunities, evaluate eligibility and risks, develop persuasive proposals, and oversee grant reporting and compliance.
- Ability to interpret funding guidelines, agreements, budgets, and reporting requirements, exercise independent judgment, and make well-supported recommendations to leadership.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines across multiple funding sources.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Finance, program leaders, funders, and external auditors.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with grant-tracking, donor, accounting, or financial systems; ability to maintain accurate records and safeguard confidential information.
- A record of leading grant development and managing a portfolio of funding sources for a nonprofit organization.
- Experience managing government grants and contracts at the federal, state, county, or city level.
- Knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting, cost allocation, audit preparation, and applicable Uniform Guidance requirements.
- Demonstrated success in developing grant proposals and overseeing reports, renewals, budget modifications, reimbursement requests, and other funder submissions.
- Experience using accounting software, grant-management platforms, or donor databases to track funding and report on results.
This role involves working in an office and program-site environment as part of a hybrid, exempt position. It requires a minimum of three days per week on-site, with the possibility of additional days as necessary. Flexibility in scheduling is essential, including occasional evening or weekend work to meet deadlines for grant applications, reporting, or organizational needs.
