Description
Electrical Test Engineer / EICR Electrician
Southampton & South Coast
£45,000 - £48,000 Basic | £60,000+ Realistic Earnings | Personal Use of Company Van | Fuel Card | Door-to-Door Pay | Enhanced Overtime
If you're an experienced Electrical Test Engineer who can walk onto a commercial site, complete an EICR properly, diagnose what you've found and produce accurate certification, this is worth a conversation.
We're recruiting for an established, family-run electrical contractor delivering long-term commercial electrical compliance work across the South Coast.
This is a business built and run by people who understand engineering.
The people around you understand what it's actually like to be out on site, testing, fault finding, dealing with clients and getting the job completed properly.
You're not just another engineer on a spreadsheet.
The culture is built around engineers looking after one another, supporting the team and doing the job properly.
Quality Over Quantity
This isn't an environment where you're judged purely by how many circuits you can get through in a day.
The focus is on:
- Accurate testing
- High-quality EICRs
- Proper fault diagnosis
- Clear certification
- Safe working
- Good workmanship
- Looking after the client
- Getting the job right the first time
Productivity matters, but quality comes first.
If you're a technically strong tester who takes pride in your work, you'll be valued for that.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll work across commercial sites carrying out:
- Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs)
- Fixed-wire inspection and testing
- Commercial electrical testing
- Emergency-lighting testing
- Fault finding and electrical diagnostics
- Identification of remedial works
- Minor electrical remedials where required
- Electrical compliance checks
- Accurate certification and reporting
- Thermal-imaging surveys, with training available where required
Jobs are planned and scheduled, giving you a structured workload rather than constantly chasing numbers.
The Package
£45,000 - £48,000 basic salary, depending on experience and qualifications.
With overtime, enhanced rates and additional earnings, experienced engineers can achieve £60,000+ per year.
You'll also receive:
- Company van with personal use
- Fuel card
- Door-to-door pay where applicable
- Enhanced overtime rates
- Enhanced evening and out-of-hours rates
- Double-time opportunities for relevant weekend and night work
- Performance-related earning opportunities
- £40 allowance when working away
- Accommodation paid when overnight stays are required
- Mobile phone
- Uniform and PPE
- 21 days' holiday plus bank holidays
- Holiday increasing with service
- Pension
- Ongoing technical training
- Six-month performance and progression reviews
- £500 employee referral bonus
A Proper Family-Run Engineering Business
One of the biggest differences is the environment you're joining.
This is a family-run business where engineering sits at the heart of the company.
The team understands the pressures engineers face because the business is surrounded by people with genuine technical and site experience.
People help one another.
If you have a difficult job, you're not left on your own.
If you need technical support, there's someone you can speak to.
If you do a good job, it's noticed.
The aim is to build long-term relationships with good engineers, not burn people out chasing short-term numbers.
You should feel like part of the business, not simply an employee number.
What We're Looking For
Ideally you'll have:
- Strong commercial EICR / fixed-wire testing experience
- City & Guilds 2391, 2394/2395 or equivalent
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent
- ECS / JIB Gold Card
- Experience working across commercial properties
- Strong fault-finding ability
- Confidence producing accurate electrical certification
- Good understanding of BS 7671
- Full UK driving licence
Experience with emergency lighting or thermal imaging is useful, although additional training can be provided.
The Important Bit
We're looking for good electrical testers, not simply people who can hit a circuit number.
If you take pride in your testing, your reports and the quality of your work, you'll fit in well.
If you're currently carrying out fixed-wire testing, EICRs or commercial electrical compliance work around Southampton, Portsmouth, Fareham, Winchester, Hampshire or the wider South Coast, we'd be happy to have a confidential conversation.
You don't need to be actively looking for a new job.
Apply confidentially through Valoris Group Limited.
