Key purpose of the role
The Senior Technical Business Analyst provides analysis leadership across complex, high-impact change affecting ASX 24 futures trading platforms. Embedded within the Futures Trading Technology team, the role shapes scope and outcomes, translates business, operational and regulatory needs into clear and testable technology requirements, and leads analysis across product owners, trading operations, engineering, architecture, testing, vendors and control functions. The role is accountable for requirements quality, end-to-end traceability, stakeholder alignment and ensuring solutions are operationally ready, resilient and well controlled.
Your Team
The Futures Trading Technology team is part of the Markets Technology division within ASX Technology. We are a trusted partner to the ASX Futures business, providing technology solutions and services that support stable, efficient and resilient trade execution for ASX’s derivatives trading business.
Your responsibilities
- Lead engagement with senior business, operations, technology and vendor stakeholders to define objectives, scope, constraints, risks, success measures and target outcomes for complex futures trading change initiatives.
- Own the analysis approach and requirements baseline for assigned initiatives, leading the elicitation, decomposition, prioritisation, validation and governance of functional, non-functional, data, integration, operational and control requirements.
- Map current-state and target-state business processes, system interactions, trading workflows, data flows, interfaces, controls, exception paths and operational procedures.
- Translate complex trading and operational concepts into high-quality artefacts including business requirements, functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, process models, data mappings, interface requirements and decision records.
- Plan and facilitate senior stakeholder workshops, design forums and decision sessions, constructively challenging assumptions, resolving ambiguity and driving timely, evidence-based decisions.
- Act as the principal analysis partner to solution architects, engineering leads and vendors, shaping feasible, supportable and resilient solutions and ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, security and operational standards.
- Analyse impacts across order entry, trade lifecycle, market data, reference data, gateways, connectivity, downstream consumers, reconciliation, reporting and end-of-day processes.
- Influence delivery planning, sequencing and prioritisation; lead backlog refinement, dependency analysis, scope control and estimation support across agile, hybrid or project delivery models.
- Define test scenarios and expected outcomes, support system and integration testing, coordinate business validation and user acceptance testing, and ensure defects are clearly triaged and resolved.
- Assess operational readiness including monitoring, alerting, support models, runbooks, access, training, cutover, rollback, reconciliation, resilience and disaster recovery considerations.
- Support implementation and production transition activities, including change documentation, release readiness, cutover coordination, post-implementation validation and early-life support.
- Provide analysis leadership across multiple workstreams, coordinating inputs from business analysts, subject-matter experts, architects, engineers, testers and vendors to maintain a coherent end-to-end solution.
- Mentor and coach other analysts, establish fit-for-purpose analysis practices and perform quality reviews of requirements, process models, data mappings, acceptance criteria and delivery artefacts.
- Present analysis, options, trade-offs, dependencies and recommendations to senior governance and design forums, ensuring decisions and residual risks are clearly recorded.
- Set and uphold analysis standards for requirements governance, documentation quality, auditability and traceability; provide peer review, coaching and guidance to analysts and delivery teams while proactively escalating material risks and gaps.
