Description
Associate Software Engineer, Intelligent Systems
Reports to: Director of Intelligent Systems & Integration
Role Overview
Monti Inc. is a Cincinnati-based copper conductor manufacturer building practical internal systems across manufacturing, finance, HR, compliance, purchasing, and leadership workflows. As the Associate Software Engineer, Intelligent Systems, you will help design, build, test, and support internal AI-enabled applications, automations, integrations, and workflows.
We are looking for someone early in their career who is highly comfortable working with modern AI coding tools, cloud platforms, and real business systems. This role is ideal for a builder who may not have years of enterprise experience yet, but who learns quickly, uses tools like Codex and Claude Code fluently, and wants to help turn messy operational problems into useful software.
This is not a research ML role. It is a practical engineering role focused on using AI tools, cloud infrastructure, APIs, databases, and business context to ship useful systems. The right person should be comfortable working with AI coding assistants, reading unfamiliar code, asking good questions, debugging across systems, and learning cloud and integration patterns quickly.
Key Responsibilities
Development & AI Tooling
• Build and maintain internal tools, automations, and AI-assisted workflows.
• Use Codex, Claude Code, and similar tools effectively as part of daily development.
• Assist with LLM-powered workflows such as classification, extraction, summarization, research, and document processing.
• Write clear, maintainable code with tests where appropriate.
Integration & Systems Support
• Help integrate systems using APIs, databases, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, Azure, and third-party platforms.
• Help debug issues across systems, including application code, cloud services, logs, credentials, and data flows.
• Support production systems with monitoring, documentation, and careful change management.
Collaboration & Documentation
• Work with business users to understand real workflows before building solutions.
• Document decisions, setup steps, known issues, and operational procedures.
• Learn Monti’s systems and gradually take ownership of small-to-medium projects.
Example Projects
• Build an internal dashboard for tracking operational data.
• Automate a manual SharePoint or Teams-based workflow.
• Help create an AI-assisted document classification or extraction process.
• Improve monitoring and alerting for an existing integration.
• Build a small tool that helps purchasing, HR, finance, or operations move faster.
• Help evaluate AI outputs using examples, review steps, and simple quality checks.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first 90 days, this person should be able to:
• Understand Monti’s internal engineering workflow and development environment.
• Use Codex and Claude Code productively to inspect code, make changes, test work, and document findings.
• Ship a small internal automation or AI-assisted workflow with guidance.
• Debug a simple integration or cloud issue using logs, documentation, and support from the team.
• Write clear documentation that helps future work move faster.
• Show good judgment about when to automate, when to ask for review, and when human approval is needed.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
• Strong comfort using AI coding tools such as Codex, Claude Code, ChatGPT, or similar systems.
• Basic software development experience in one or more languages such as TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, C#, or similar.
• Familiarity with Git, GitHub, pull requests, and code review workflows.
• Basic understanding of APIs, databases, authentication, and cloud services.
• Comfort working in a terminal and reading logs/errors.
• Ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly and ask clear questions.
• Strong written communication and documentation habits.
• Careful judgment when working with sensitive business data.
Preferred
• Experience with Azure, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, Entra ID, or Microsoft Graph.
• Experience with Terraform or infrastructure-as-code.
• Experience building small web apps, scripts, internal tools, or automation workflows.
• Familiarity with SQL and relational databases.
• Experience using LLM APIs, structured outputs, RAG, agents, or prompt engineering.
• Exposure to manufacturing, ERP, finance, HR, purchasing, or compliance workflows.
• Interest in production reliability, monitoring, and secure system design.
Core Competencies
We want a curious, tool-native builder who is excited by real operational problems. You do not need to be a senior AI expert. You do need to be comfortable learning in public, working with AI coding tools every day, and turning vague problems into working software. The ideal candidate:
• Likes using AI tools as part of their engineering process.
• Is not intimidated by cloud systems, APIs, or unfamiliar codebases.
• Can move carefully around production data and business-critical workflows.
• Values useful, reliable systems over flashy demos.
• Wants to grow into a strong AI systems engineer inside a real manufacturing business.
Why Join Monti?
At Monti Inc., you will work hands-on with modern AI tools and real business systems, turning messy operational problems into software people use every day. This role offers a practical path to grow into a strong AI systems engineer inside a real manufacturing business, with the support of a team that values useful, reliable systems.
Monti, Inc. is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
