Your role at Baxter

The Baxter User Experience (UX) design team supports the global development and advanced technology teams with interaction, visual and industrial design as well as ethnographic research and Human Factors and Usability testing.

Our designers work collaboratively with stakeholders and customers to research, design and implement competitively differentiated user experience solutions for clinicians and patients.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working closely with our UX team as well as our cross functional/cross location project teams and be able to function with limited supervision in an Agile software development environment.  A designer in this role will lead, consult and assist development teams in several or all the following areas: visual design, interaction design, usability testing, human factors, user research, information architecture, front end development and design documentation.   They must demonstrate a passion for design, strong collaboration skills and a proficiency in concept development and communication skills.  We are looking for a creative problem solver who is competent in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard user experience principles and processes to recognize, understand and solve user needs.

Baxter’s goal is to empower clinicians and health systems with the tools to make a difference in patients and clinician’s lives.  We are looking for someone who is passionate about this work, who empathizes with the functional and psychological needs of the people who experience our products first hand.  Someone who approaches problems with an open mind and willingness to test and refine their ideas.

What you will be doing:

  • Create user friendly interface designs, adhering to established UI design standards and practices, including Baxter design patterns and guidelines, W3C guidelines, Google Material Design guidelines, Apple Human Interface Guidelines, and Android Design Guidelines.
  • Participate in customer interviews, interactions, and other user research to identify customer needs and wants.
  • Create UI prototypes, which may be used for testing or marketing purposes.
  • Participate in usability research, including creating test plans and scripts, moderating usability test sessions, and writing final reports.
  • Document user experience designs and specifications.
  • Provide UX and design input to cross functional teams, including recommendations for product and process improvements based on UX expertise and knowledge.
  • Act independently with minimal supervision. Apply project team engineering methodologies and tools to manage work and communicate across teams and specialties.
  • Must be able to communicate design intent through storyboards, user-stories, workflows, wireframes and visual designs from low fidelity prototypes through final design assets.

Required Background

  • Proficiency with design software such as Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, Axure, Qt Design Studio
  • Bachelors in Human Factors or related field, or equivalent. (User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Visual Design, Human Factors and Usability testing, Design Research) and 5+ years of related work experience.
  • Ability to travel to Baxter and/or customer sites and meet hospital credentialing requirements.
  • A solid understanding of UX design principles.
  • Experience using UI design and prototyping tools, especially advanced figma skills, including creating and using components, variables, auto-layout, and themes.
  • Passion for improving user experiences and willing and able to advocate on behalf of the user and UX standard processes.
  • Ability to explain and document UI designs and decisions, both verbally and in written form.
  • Experience with medical device or other regulated fields preferred.
