Title: Program Therapist (Inpatient)
Schedule: M-F dayshift hours (No weekends or on-call)
Location: State College, PA
Population: Adults and geriatrics
Job Description:
The Program Therapist provides therapeutic services for patients utilizing group, individual, and family therapy sessions to adults in an intensive outpatient/partial hospitalization environment. They work within a small, interdisciplinary team with a focus on quality patient care and provision of services ordered by a physician. The Licensed Therapist documents all completed services in compliance with provided standards and regulations and is thorough with details and organization.
Position Responsibilities:
Care: All employees are expected to provide the best possible patient care.
a. Ensure accurate completion of the psychosocial assessment on each patient.
b. Ensure accurate completion of group psychotherapy notes for each patient.
c. Ensure accurate completion of treatment plans.
d. Demonstrate understanding of mental health assessment of adults.
e. Demonstrate an understanding of adult counseling treatment, group therapy, and evidenced based practices.
f. Provide understanding of adult case management.
Compliance: Ensure the program operates within all regulations
a. Participate in outcome studies timelines, understanding of administration of the tests and when they are to be reported.
b. Participate in treatment team meetings with medical director.
c. Complete all notes in prescribed timeline.
d. Comply with all regulations.

a. Demonstrate understanding of community education definitions and activities.
b. Participate in customer service training as it relates to community integration.
c. Present IOP/PHP to community as directed by Program Director.
d. Participate in cohesive team environment to ensure program success.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of evidence-based treatment practices for individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders in a PHP/IOP level of care.
- Understanding of group therapy dynamics, individual therapy interventions, crisis assessment, safety planning, and discharge planning.
- Knowledge of DSM-5 diagnoses, trauma-informed care, co-occurring disorders, suicide risk assessment, and basic psychopharmacology.
- Familiarity with clinical documentation standards, treatment planning, medical necessity criteria, HIPAA, confidentiality, mandated reporting, and relevant state/federal regulations.
- Ability to conduct biopsychosocial assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and update goals based on patient progress and level-of-care needs.
- Strong group facilitation skills, including the ability to manage high-acuity presentations, interpersonal conflict, emotional dysregulation, and varying stages of readiness for change.
- Ability to assess and respond appropriately to clinical risk, including suicidal ideation, self-harm, homicidal ideation, withdrawal concerns, abuse/neglect, and psychiatric decompensation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with psychiatrists, nurses, case managers, utilization review staff, families/support systems, and external providers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including timely, accurate, and clinically appropriate documentation.
- Ability to maintain therapeutic boundaries, demonstrate cultural humility, and provide compassionate, patient-centered care.
- Ability to prioritize patient safety, manage competing clinical demands, and function effectively in a fast-paced, structured treatment environment.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and willingness to comply with organizational policies, quality standards, and performance expectations.

Requirements
License/Education:
- License in Social Work or Counseling as recognized by state. May include LCSW, LPC, LMFT, etc.
- Certification: Must meet any applicable state certification standards.
- Master’s degree in social work from an accredited graduate school of social work or master’s degree in other counseling related field
Experience:
- Two to three years of clinical experience with adult population preferred.
Other:
- Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
